Has anyone else been listening to this? Came to it completely cold and absolutely gripped!

Not yet - but did you listen to the first series - The Mystery of Charles Dexter Ward? I'm listening to it now and I love the way they combine an old story with modern podcast.

No, I didn’t. I had no idea what it was until Jane Garvey mentioned it on Twitter and I started listening thing it was a straight (I.e. factual) podcast! I was terribly confused at first

But I will definitely go back and listen to the first series. Agree that the idea of updating the concept is a good one.
