Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Hannah to stay around, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @SurpriseSparDay for the title. I haven't heard 12/12 yet so must catch up now, seeking relief from the outside world. Sad

And it may well not be a large new build: it was bought by Philip for two people, and with no expectation of children.
Tom mentioned that it was palatial compared to the flat over the shop. I suppose that 'Joy popping round the back door' implies that they aren't huge detached houses but I would have expected Justin to build premium-price places.
It's weird that the only people we have heard about on the Beechwood estate are (1) a couple who may remain sprogless and (2) a singleton with no visiting family.
Where are the families?Confused don't mention MeandEd

Minimammoth · 13/01/2020 22:07

Neither Kirsty or Tom sound as if they are over each other.
Am not convinced, Tom is trying to convince himself by lavishing attention on Tash

She must be the only female with a bag whom I know who doesn't keep her car keys in her bag. If I am jeans it will be in my pocket, but in that case I won't be carrying a bag

I virtually always carry my keys separately from my bag. It's a pain having to firk around in my bag to find them, particularly if my hands are full with other things or it's dark.

What a strange house with the only bath in the master en-suite.

Have been doing a bit of house hunting Choccyp1g and I agree. In a lot of new builds the ‘family’ bathroom has a bath and shower but the en suite might just be a shower. It reminds me of when Helen and Rob were living in Blossom Hill Cottage (Usha’s place if I have got name wrong) where there were only 2 beds. Mysteriously Ursula ended up staying even though it was a 2 bed house and Henry was in the 2nd bedroom so there was clearly a magicsl spare bedroom needed for the plot. I guess the SWs wanted Gavin to find Alistair in Kirsty & Phillip’s bathroom to maximise embarrassment.

Something I realise annoys me. Just been listening to Friday's episode and hear Jim say "I suppose" (rather than "I suppose so". Not the first time that the phrase has been used by older Ambridge members. It's not something I've ever heard any of my older friends and colleagues use, although we recognise it normal younger people's usage

I agree and was pleased that Jim couldn't bring himself to use the word "closure".

Gavin is ludicrously, leeringly unpleasant. Presumably he sees Kirsty as competition for his eventual inheritance.

Weren't they blamed for the Chinese lantern that one of the Montbéliards ate?

Madcats · 14/01/2020 07:23

Is it normal to keep your work laptop in your bedroom wardrobe?

Mind you, we don't give family members keys to our house... and would certainly phone to warn each other if somebody was about to let themselves in.

echt · 14/01/2020 07:27

Quite.

Gavin's being Philip's son does not give him open access to the house he shares with Kirsty.

LizziesTwin · 14/01/2020 07:37

The children from Beechwood were trick or treating at Halloween weren’t they?

NewName73 · 14/01/2020 08:04

I never keep my keys in my handbag when I go out, always in my coat or jacket pocket.

This is after having my bag stolen many years ago, and then having to get all the locks changed.

EBearhug · 14/01/2020 08:13

The children from Beechwood were trick or treating at Halloween weren’t they?

Yes.

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/01/2020 09:21

Gavin is ludicrously, leeringly unpleasant. He's just a bully, isn't he?

Mind, I'd be having second thoughts about a partner if they'd brought up a child who ended up like that. Especially if they didn't seem to see anything wrong in them.

Who has a bath in someone else's bath, a not-particularly-close-friend's bath at that? I am not generally squeamish but feel a little odd about hotel baths, and those are professionally cleaned! I know it was a plot device but - ugh.

Equanimitas · 15/01/2020 00:42

Lots of people have baths in other people's baths, e.g. when they go to stay as guests. When I shared a flat and the landlord took ages to sort out a problem with the pipes, we all used to go round to various friends for baths.

Motoko · 15/01/2020 08:41

Yeah, when we moved into a rented house, the gas had to be switched back on, but the gas bloke wouldn't do it, until a new up to date safety check had been done, so we used a friend's bath for a few days, as he lived just around the corner.
As long as the bath has been cleaned, I don't see any problem with it.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2020 18:36

When I was growing up we'd occasionally have a complete stranger using our bath - DM would invite leaders of young people's groups camping in our church hall. There would usually be a box of chocolates in it for us so that was fine by me!Grin
