Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to LillianGish and BuckingFrolics for ideas for this thread title. I went with the less Rabelaisian of LG's ideas! Grin

On 14th June it will be the 100th birthday of June Spencer, who has played Peggy Woolley since 1951. I hope the BBC has a lot of special tributes lined up to celebrate this remarkable achievement.

OP posts:
LillianGish · 12/06/2019 07:47

Is there some significance in the fact that they are landowners and Lillian is not?

BuckingFrolics · 12/06/2019 08:02

lilian something about Adams child-to-be's inheritance? Would that make sense? I don't hold all the family relationships in my head clearly enough to know the answer

R4 · 12/06/2019 08:24

Peggy wouldn't favour one great-grandchild - Lexi's baby - over the others - Phoebe, Noli, Sipho.
Is it all about Peggy, or is it another bucket-list thing? I can't remember if Ian is invited, too.

LillianGish · 12/06/2019 08:37

Ian is invited - which is what me think it might be a bucket list thing (especially after the sighting of her in a flash car with chauffeur). There was also her slightly bizarre chat with Gnasher pre-disappearance telling her to get on with giving her another great-grandchild. Maybe she’s just realised everyone is basically after her for her money (Kate moving in and sucking up to Hilda) so is going to blow it on one of those cruises where you just cruise around in luxury until you die (then June Spenser can quietly retire - though George’s video link suggests retiring is the last thing on her mind).

ppeatfruit · 12/06/2019 09:56

Late thanks for the new thread Gasp which I have just read. (points for perseverance are due Grin ) I have to catch up this week's. though.

R4 · 12/06/2019 10:00

Oops. I left off three other great-grandchildren - Mungo, Henwee, Jack.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 12/06/2019 11:02

Sorry, have I missed something?

Do we know for definite that the driver of the posh car was a chauffeur?

Motoko · 12/06/2019 11:13

No, it's just speculation.

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 12/06/2019 12:59

Could the chauffeur driven car be something to do with the Gills? Peggy buying back Home Farm?

Properly clutching at straws here!

GeorgeTheBleeder · 12/06/2019 14:13

I don’t think Jill was pleased to be shown the guest room at Leonard’s house ...

Why are the SWs being so squeamish? Jill and Leonard have been an item for yonks ...

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre I’d like to see the Aldridge’s at ‘home’ again, but would be very annoyed if the SWs had let them go through all that stress and trauma for nothing. If Peggy could buy Home Farm surely she would have done it at once?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 12/06/2019 14:16

Forgot! A definite BOOP for the scene with Jill and Ben. Stupendous.

How is it that the Ben actor manages to make every line sound so fabulously full of potential? He’s by far the best thing about Brookfield.

thislido · 12/06/2019 14:41

George, I've seen you on other threads, insisting that old people (MN old, i.e. >35) be allowed to have opinions, wear clothes, and exist in bodies that have aged. Surely you're not also suggesting they... have sex? Grin

MerdedeBrexit · 12/06/2019 15:02

I think those we have heard about who have "officially" been invited to Peggy's meeting are: Brian, Jenny and Adam (not Ian); David and Ruth (no one else from Brookfield); Tony and Pat (no one else from Bridge Farm).
Is this cruise Piggoi's going on a real thing or did I miss someone joking about it on here (would much appreciate DDD mansplaining that!)?

birdsdestiny · 12/06/2019 15:22

Oh I really like the idea that it's to do with the Gills . I will be disappointed with anything else now.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 12/06/2019 15:27

I have to think Peggy's meeting has to be something to do with the land around Ambridge as the 3 main landowners have been invited - Brookfield, Bridge Farm and Home Farm. I'm wondering if Peggy is maybe thinking about a legacy and blowing her money on something environmental she will fund on all 3 farms for the benefit of the village. The chauffer driven car might have been Peggy going to have a look at all 3 farms without any one of the family getting wind of what she is doing before she is ready to tell them

LillianGish · 12/06/2019 16:14

Ooh - I like that theory Paintingtheroses. It would explain why Lillian is excluded and also why she was driving around alone in the car. Actually I’d like it if she revealed she was leaving all her money to Hilda Ogden in the manner of Karl Lagerfeld.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 12/06/2019 16:15

lido ... Grin Are you prepared to admit you have a spreadsheet that would put a statistician to shame?

The land idea is excellent Paintingtheroseswhite! Though it would be a cunning piece of misdirection as the script has been all about the bucket list lately. So clever of them to have me/us on tenterhooks over the sex life of one octogenarian and the presumably financial decisions of a nonogenarian. Grin

(Wonder if it’s time for a namechange? I have been loitering quite determinedly here lately - Procrastination Central.)

MikeUniformMike · 12/06/2019 18:48

There was an All in the mind programme on procrastination today. I might listen to it sometime.

thislido · 12/06/2019 20:00

I might listen to it sometime. Grin I’ll probably listen to it to avoid doing something else. There’s some brilliant stuff on procrastination here: waitbutwhy.com/2013/10/why-procrastinators-procrastinate.html

George I do have a small collection of spreadshits, but I promise none of them is tracking your posting history. Did you want someone to make a graph of your posting rate plotted against your deadlines? Grin. (The OP who couldn’t buy a coat she liked because she’d seen an old person wearing clothes from that shop was amazing. I can’t wait to hit 50 and gain the super power of contamination.)

MikeUniformMike · 12/06/2019 20:02

I like the idea of contamination. Something I might be good at.

thislido · 12/06/2019 20:21

BOOP for Lynda tonight. She did well to get through the door.
