Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to LillianGish and BuckingFrolics for ideas for this thread title. I went with the less Rabelaisian of LG's ideas! Grin

On 14th June it will be the 100th birthday of June Spencer, who has played Peggy Woolley since 1951. I hope the BBC has a lot of special tributes lined up to celebrate this remarkable achievement.

Re the Women’s Hour article Lynda can be very judgemental and superior. I’m thinking of her theatrical aspirations and her show off French. She can also be kind and generous...

Lynda's superiority is cultural rather than class-based though. I thought she shows off Italian in the context of opera rather than French for some sort of elitist je ne sais quois.

Hi all, checking in. Does anyone else think that Kate's idea of the family dictating Adam and Ian's pre baby bucket list is bonkers?

Also, in addition to the ever expanding house in Ambridge does everyone now have a time machine? Suddenly the very busy Adam and Ian have all the time in the world to do an endless bucket list and Gnasher can just breeze around doing OFS and making salsa, weren't we told she was flat out running her own business?

Report
ADarkandStormyKnight · 02/06/2019 09:13

Lynda's cultural aspirations are her Achille's heel - she thinks it should matter to everyone as much as it matters to her.

Kate taking over their bucket list we be another opportunity for side splitting humour probably a little risque. Sigh.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/06/2019 09:25

I don't know about a bucket list exactly, but I'm sure MN could come up with a list for prospective parents of things they may not easily be able to do again for another two or five or eighteen years.Grin

I have always assumed that the LSW who devised Lynda-with-a-y and her cultural aspirations was channeling Lucia. Especially with the Italian dropping in.

Yes. Surely the point of a bucket list is things you want to do, and you'don't already know. And if they had always wanted to climb Machu Pichu or something, it's probably a bit late before the baby comes. Plus it is a busy time of year for farming.

Thanks Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g (Full name in honour of Joe. Do we know his full name?)

I also wish they’d drop the comedy. It’s so much better arriving unexpectedly through inflection.

So Tilly Button only found the bunting, did she?

We still don't know who actually snaffled it in the first place.

Correct?

I'm baffled - and bored........ 😕

This might be a bit gloomy but I think Philip is going to die. Too much emphasis on the start of their fabulous new life together...

I'm more interested at this point in the identity of the egg thief. Hens eggs seem a bit big for any bird to take entire, so some sort of mammal.

Report
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/06/2019 11:34

If he makes a will or gets insurance and Kirsty ends up owning the new house outright, that would be an interesting development. I don't mind Philip but have no strong feelings about him either way.

I'm all for 'slow burn' storylines, and The Archers does them exceptionally well, but I think this one is a bit silly.

It almost feels forced, if you know what I mean Confused

@BeardieWeirdies - I did have this nagging feeling that I hadn't invented it! No intentional plagiarism on my part. I fully acknowledge that Jimposium is your (excellent) handiwork.

Surely the eggs were taken by Jimzer as part of their dastardly plot? Confused (Only vaguely remember, it was so boring the first time that I skipped the film this morning.)

Any bets on whether we get a patched-in 'topical reference' next week - which means it may be an exchange between two unlikely characters.

I also think Philip is going to die Birdsdestiny.

Hopefully Phillip won't expire until after he's helped create the wildlife garden.

I hope Emma does get her house, and Eddie landscapes her garden (sans dwarves etc though!). Emma will then be able to compare Kirsty's unfavourably, what with its patches of nettles, piles of rotting wood etc.

Yes! Now it's been mentioned, Lucia is exactly who Lynda reminds me of. And Robert is not too unlike her Georgie!

But who could be Lynda/Lucia's Mapp? Nobody springs readily to my mind.

Any suggestions?

By no means a perfect match, but JD is the one who came to my mind straight away.
