Well hasn’t it been a fun few years! Thank you all for supporting the threads and sharing in love and critique of The Archers.

I think Christine isn't in the care bit of the Laurels any more -- didn't she say there was a flat there that she was going to move into? Maybe her pension covers that. (ha ha ha ha ha, but this is The Archers so it probably does.)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/03/2019 22:11

And Lee doesn't live in Ambridge so I can't think why he would buy anything at the village shop where it must cost more than buying from the supermarket on the bypass. Apart from the judo class once a week I don't see why he would be in Ambridge at all, in fact, once he stops trying to have a relationship with Helen.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 15/03/2019 22:27

I liked Lee tonight. He seems to have aged fifteen years and was all the more attractive for it.

Kate and Hilda ... Is this an indication that Kate's going to be at the Lodge forever? No one else has ever got on with that wretched cat. If Kate is going to be Peggy's ... erm ... final companion then she's surely the natural inheritor of the house. Is Peggy still intending to leave it to Helen - or was that altered after the fondant fancy debacle? Could be an interesting squabble brewing ...

GeorgeTheBleeder · 15/03/2019 22:45

Also - I really couldn't rid myself of the impression that all of Natasha's house conversation with Tom was one massive, hasty re-write after the SWs read our disapproval. It seems so unlikely that they were not on the same page, so to speak.

But presuming we did hear the original story it doesn't bode well. Is Tom always going to be putting his foot in it without considering whether he has her agreement? Will she always be clearing up the mess afterwards?

Nah ...

LassOfFyvie · 15/03/2019 22:56

Tom is such a selfish idiot and Helen isn't far behind.

EcclesThePeacock · 16/03/2019 00:03

Huge BOOP and quite a lot of sniffling for Emma (and Susan... more than made up for spilling the beans re Helen to Natasha, which tbf she brought up assuming Natasha would already know about it.)

And another for Peggy and her firm hand with Kate - about 40 years overdue.

So... Natasha isn't scheming to oust Pat, Tony and Helen and her boys from Bridge farm, that was just some idiotic thing of Tom's. Maybe he's somehow wound up with someone far better than he deserves after all?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 16/03/2019 06:38

Oh yes, Thesilvery!

Kate's one redeeming trait!

Loves cats - like me 😺

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 16/03/2019 06:56

Just listening now. Maybe Natasha will actually be the making of Tom? She sounded sensible and tough in that exchange.

How the hell did Tom and Helen both end up so touchy and awful? DON'T tell me about John!

RadioCarter · 16/03/2019 07:34

It's funny how we all react differently to the different characters. Somebody said upthread that they hate Kate. I don't. She's done some awful things but she's such a pantomime baddie that I can't take her seriously enough to hate her.
On the other hand, I'm not at all keen on any of the Bridge Farm lot. I think it's because they are so preachy and holier-than-thou. Compounded by the fact that thy have nothing to be smug about because they are deeply flawed characters. They are selfish and self-centred yet, at the same time, full of angst. They are dementors.

BertrandRussell · 16/03/2019 07:44

I know I keep saying it, but I can’t bear all these middle aged characters behaving like teenagers. Kate’s 40, and Tom’s nearly 40..........

And Natasha and Johnny are the only people behaving like normal sensible grown ups.

I reckon the curve ball with Natasha is that there isn’t one!

JazzerMcJazzer · 16/03/2019 07:59

WARNING PICTURE IN LINK

Details of the Natasha actress. Lols exactly how I imagined her! I am liking her character a bit more now, the romance a bit realistic but I hope she sticks around for a good few years. When is Pat going to reveal that she too is Welsh? I know nothing about Wales, do they come from rival parts?

JazzerMcJazzer · 16/03/2019 08:00

That’s “looks” not “lols”. I am not 13.

ppeatfruit · 16/03/2019 08:11

Helen has some excuse for being touchy Grin but really last night she frightened ME. She really must get professional help ,poor Lee.

Tom is just a bloke with not a lot of emotional intelligence he won't change will he?

Oh btw the script is written 6 weeks before it's broadcast so they can't change it (unless there's something urgent happening in RL ) then they do 'inserts' with whichever actors are about at the time.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/03/2019 08:35

I wasn't being entirely serious ppeat! Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/03/2019 08:39

I must have been dreaming about TA because I woke up in the middle of the night thinking that now Natasha knows about Helen it will be she (her?)who spills the beans to Lee. I don't think she knows how close they nearly were.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/03/2019 08:40

All that insistence that she would never gossip about Tom's family. Hmmm.

LizziesTwin · 16/03/2019 08:47

I looked at the picture & think the actress looks much older than I’d imagine Natasha to look. I’m not sure why but I thought she was still in her 20s, that’s the acting I guess.Smile

I really couldn't rid myself of the impression that all of Natasha's house conversation with Tom was one massive, hasty re-write after the SWs read our disapproval

I really can't see this. They've never previously been influenced by online disapproval, even with utter nonsense like the Brookfield move, and it's pretty obvious that if all the characters were saints who never did anything morally dodgy the programme would be utterly boring. They absolutely meant listeners to get cross about that idea.

I begin to think Natasha may be rather good for Tom and could manage to force him to grow up and stop him being such a self-centred pillock. Here's hoping.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/03/2019 09:20

I refer you to my reply to ppeat, UnspiritualHome* ...

(My fault for failing to write with more regard for tone.)

EBearhug · 16/03/2019 09:21

I thought she was still in her 20s

I think she’s a similar age to Tom.

I think part of her may have been wondering what sort of self-centred arsehole has she married. I think she could be good for Tom, too. Which probably means he'said not good enough for her.

C8H10N4O2 · 16/03/2019 10:13

Is Peggy still paying Christine's care home fees?

I thought Christine had moved into the Laurels sheltered flats and that in the absence of Peggy to share with the mysterious Peter was making up the difference

C8H10N4O2 · 16/03/2019 10:14

I think she could be good for Tom, too. Which probably means he'said not good enough for her

I agree. I wouldn't want Tom as my SiL.

C8H10N4O2 · 16/03/2019 10:16

I think it's because they are so preachy and holier-than-thou

Oh I think on the holier-than-thou and smug fronts David is Ambridge champion by a country mile. He's utterly insufferable.

RadioCarter · 16/03/2019 10:28

I don't think that David has the thinking capacity to ever be holier-than-thou. He just follows the plough, so to speak, without thought. He might be smug but he's not sanctimonious.
