Well hasn’t it been a fun few years! Thank you all for supporting the threads and sharing in love and critique of The Archers.

Oh dear, so that's Natasha's plan. There's going to be T R ubble!

jennystangine · 11/03/2019 16:59

Lily means well, even though she put Elizabeth off her mushroom soup (I was inspired to make some today). They must be very apprehensive about Freddie coming home.
Trouble with Russ, he's awful but can say the right things when needed.

KateMadikane · 11/03/2019 18:47

I thought the scene between Phoebe and Helen was well done. Also Lily was being a bit unfair to Phoebe expecting her to drop everything and have a night on the town with her. I wonder what Phoebe will do after graduation.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 11/03/2019 19:02

What Phoebe will do after graduation?

It's certainly a worry. The SWs don't have much experience of constructing a sustained, non-rural career for a super-bright young woman with a prestigious first degree.

She doesn't seem necessary for a new story right now - so perhaps they'll keep her in Oxford for a postgrad degree.

JazzerMcJazzer · 11/03/2019 19:07

I was amazed that Feebs had already been at Oxford for 3 years, time flies! Hopefully they’ll just say she’s on some unspecific but prestigious graduate scheme in London and she’ll pop in now and again as she’s currently doing. Her degree is PPE I think? Maybe civil service Fast stream?

Motoko · 11/03/2019 19:16

Ha, Kate lying to Peggy to try and have Christine's old room. So glad Peggy saw through her, and refused. Mind you, Peggy always seems very astute.

Helen really, really needs some serious counselling.

MikeUniformMike · 11/03/2019 19:17

Was it a vegan cream tea?

UnspiritualHome · 11/03/2019 19:23

I feel sorry for Phoebe, with both Lily and Kate unable to comprehend why she might actually have to work for her finals during the vacation. If Kate so much as contemplates shacking up with her in Oxford, I hope the rest of the family stage an intervention.

echt · 11/03/2019 20:02

Kate is a clod, isn't she? I replayed the episode just to hear Peggy's response. Even when buttering up her gran, Kate's terrible solipsism prevents her from doing it properly, rushing her round the supermarket. And as for caring about Phoebe's university work..Pfft, it was just to get Peggy on her own.

I'd be surprised if she really expected to pick up the tab for the food.

Priceless scripting at the start, with Kate motoring her way through others' food, speaking with her mouth full (please SWs, don't do this) while saying she'd already eaten at the Dower House. Such good metaphor for her unthinking greediness.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 11/03/2019 20:46

Kate can have Hannah's room when Hannah has had enough of the newly weds' billing and cooing.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 11/03/2019 21:14

Kate was marvellous tonight! I enjoyed her wonderful awfulness a lot 😊

Usingmyindoorvoice · 11/03/2019 21:23

Me too pasbeaucoup I love the fact I can spend time with pretend people like Kate, but not actually have to in real life.

HelloYouTwo · 11/03/2019 21:51

I was listening in the car and assumed DC were tuned out but even the 14yo snorted happily at the way in which Peggy dealt with Kate. She is perfectly awful.

EBearhug · 11/03/2019 22:03

Yes, Kate is great listening. In small doses.

Peggy was fabulous.

RadioCarter · 11/03/2019 22:11

Peggy always seems very astute.
I was thinking this morning that we need to hear Peggy's view of Natasha.

I liked Kate's comment about "clocking up nearly 100 years": the actress may be but Peggy is only 94, a few years off yet. But then I'm sure that Kate thinks that it would be unreasonable to expect her to know a minor detail like her own Gran's age.

LassOfFyvie · 12/03/2019 00:06

Lily gets more and more annoying. And not in an enjoyable way like Kate. She was awful to her mother and Phoebe.

A begrudged Boop for CMR who for once sounded like an actual grown-up.

LassOfFyvie · 12/03/2019 00:12

Tom is beyond a joke.

I do hope Pat 'n' Tone have the backbone to put a stop to this and at the same time sort out Johnny's position. Johnny should be treated as representing his father's interest, not as a grandchild, when it comes to passing on to the next generation.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 12/03/2019 07:23

Yes radio you are bang on. Has Peggy met Natasha by herself? I’m assuming like most people only at the wedding.
Peggy will get the measure for of her, that’s for sure.

BeUpStanding · 12/03/2019 07:30

Ooh yes, I really want to hear Peggy's view of Natasha.

CMR is wrangling to get with Elizabeth I reckon. Lily is being terribly earnest bless her, and she is only 19.

EverybodysTalkingAtMe · 12/03/2019 07:34

@GeorgeTheBleeder well you did ask if anyone else had thought if it. No need to be so patronising.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 12/03/2019 07:43

Grin I probably didn't express myself properly Everybody. In my head I was extending the earlier conversation (the one you mentioned) as things have moved on now that Russ has moved in. But fair enough if that didn't come across.

(And I gather that patronising is my natural MN persona. Probably too late to change now - though it's never what I actually intend. Was just a bit ((highly irrationally)) miffed ... )

BuckingFrolics · 12/03/2019 07:50

Could a kindly archaeologist tell me remind me why Kate is how she is? Dropped on her head as a baby? She's so unremittingly self-referential and lacking in empathy of the most basic quality that I assume there is a dark tragedy in her history.

mike vegan butter on the toast she nicked from Phoebe?

BuckingFrolics · 12/03/2019 07:52

Also I think there was no male voice whatsoever in yesterday's episode.

A day late for international women's day, but then Ambridge is a little behind the times.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 12/03/2019 08:04

Oh - is that so? Very well spotted! My listening was a bit distracted but if that's the point they were making the choice of characters was interesting. The two most privileged of the younger generation - by birth and brains; an entitled but unusually (for Ambridge) adventurous middle-aged woman and the oldest (?) main female character - running rings around others. And all actual Archers. Cool ...

(I can't remember if anyone else was involved ...)

GeorgeTheBleeder · 12/03/2019 08:06

Oh yes, Kirstie and Helen?

(I'll need to LA Hmm )
