The Archers #96: Is that a rat I smell or the whiff of Snell? In Chaucer’s famous Tale of Two Torsos, Brian’s ‘still got it’ and Poldark is searching for scything opportunities in Susan’s kitchen.

Welcome..... I'd concocted a longer title with all sorts of references to bitch stitching and pasta bakes, but was thwarted by the pesky character limit

OP posts:

I agree Fink . The Aldridge’s are landowners, the Archers are farmers.

birdsdestiny · 30/12/2018 12:28

I view Adam as a farmer. Can't believe I am defending Adam.

C8H10N4O2 · 30/12/2018 14:12

19/20.

I really need to go and get myself a life.

I'd actually forgotten who originally introduced Hannah - can't believe I forgot that but remembered invisible board directors.

witchmountain · 30/12/2018 16:44

Paste, I'm also confused about how the mystery guest will play out. It wasn't until the end of the Canterbury Tales broadcast that I realised we would have to wait a week to listen to part two. It's quite rare that the characters know something that we don't, although they did trick us by making us think Susan had framed Clarrie for the llama stealing, which seemed like a departure from normal SW protocol.

R4 · 30/12/2018 18:35

I got 16/20 for the quiz.Blush The new board members tripped me up, too. Some nice in-jokes eg what finished off Al & Shula's marriage: was it a fish-dish?Grin
I quite enjoyed Canterbury Tales once it got into its stride. The beginning was off-putting with excessive audience noise and Rooth going on about Can't-er-brie.

MargueritaPink · 30/12/2018 19:14

You can't settle a property sale at the weekend - the banks are closed.

R4 · 30/12/2018 19:21

That's what I thought Marguerita. How did they transfer the funds, did someone send round a wheelbarrow full of notes?Confused

TheEfficientBaxter · 30/12/2018 19:22

What did Brian say when Adam announced his intention to marry Ian?

It was before I started listening regularly.

QuaterMiss · 30/12/2018 19:22

Poor Jenny. Xmas Sad Even when you're happy to do it, moving is hell. This would be unbearable.

Are they paying us back for all our Northumberland sniping? It's incredibly hard to believe the Home Farm house no longer belongs to the Aldridges. (Although all the senior generation have been downsized one way or another. Pat and Tony are lucky to still be living in their own house - perhaps they'll be next.)

R4 · 30/12/2018 19:31

Poor Jenny.
Hmm. She may not have a fancy house any more but at least she still has another person to share with. Unlike Peggy.

InkySplatter · 30/12/2018 19:31

16/20 unimpressed with Hannah question as it was before my time.
Dim bells got me through the flower & produce though. BL bored more like Grin not a clue.

grumiosmum · 30/12/2018 19:39

Was Peggy the Mystery Guest in the Canterbury Tales?

Very lame if so....

R4 · 30/12/2018 19:43

Very lame if so....
I thought that it was a nice touch for June Spencer, though.

JessieMcJessie · 30/12/2018 19:47

I agree Marguerita and R4. It’s impossible for the sake to have completed on a Sunday.
Lovely scene with Jenny and Peggy, but I did think that Brian was a heartless bastard not to be with Jenny for the handing over of the keys. I feel quite bereft myself thinking of someone else in her lovely kitchen!

birdsdestiny · 30/12/2018 19:48

That other person is Brian though R4. I think I would prefer Hilda.

Bittermints · 30/12/2018 19:49

Daylong tantrum and no one paid any attention! What a tribute to the parenting skills of MNers. Xmas Grin

Is completion tomorrow? Clearly wasn't listening properly the other day.

Re Brian - he struggled with the idea of same sex relationships, but just about held in all his prejudices. However, civil partnership proved a stiffer test. He initially said he wouldn't go but changed his mind on the day after a chat with Ian's dad, who'd had to work through similar reactions but had decided to attend. I think that's how it was, anyway.

MargueritaPink · 30/12/2018 19:58

Lovely scene with Jenny and Peggy

Lovely and unrealistic. One might arrange a handover of keys direct at the property but normally all keys are delivered to the agent. Sellers don't keep a set and let themselves into a house they no longer own

Cromercrab · 30/12/2018 20:18

Haven't listened yet - but I take it the sale of HF is completed and Jenny and Brine are out?

TBH, I was not convinced about the move, but wanted it to happen rather than an 11th hour reprieve. Is the buyer the dastardly Martin Thing of BL Board?

MikeUniformMike · 30/12/2018 20:25

Natasha doesn't sound like she's from Capel Curig, but Pat doesn't sound Welsh. Does anyone remember which part of Wales Pat hails from? I think it would be North Wales as Borth and Prestatyn have been visited.

JessieMcJessie · 30/12/2018 20:31

We sonny know who the buyer is Cromer, just “a PA” sent to collect the keys. Holding out hope for it to be a last minute benevolent angel.

witchmountain · 30/12/2018 21:18

I almost had to turn off Tom and Natasha lest I strain something cringing, but the scene between Jennifer and Peggy was nice.

echt · 30/12/2018 21:21

That "watch your back" banter between Natasha and Tom, was it a covert reference to vigorous rumpy-pumpy?

R4 · 30/12/2018 21:26

"watch your back" banter
Like witch, I was subconsciously trying to tune out but I rationalised it as some sort of pig/bacon reference.

Cromercrab · 30/12/2018 21:30

Ah, I see. Well, I"ll keep my distance until the thing is decided. I don't fancy another 'not going North' storyline. I am hoping that the Aldridges have to move on, sista. I think that makes for a more interesting plot.

SusanWalker · 30/12/2018 21:53

I thought they had got matching tattoos.

I would feel more sympathy for Jennifer if she didn't keep sneering about having to live in a normal two bed house. I get its a shock when you're used to a big house, but there's no need to be so snobby. Especially when we all know they are going to end up in a bigger place.
