The new series of In The Dark is excellent, though the insights into the US justice system will make you Angry

tangledyarn · 17/06/2018 01:06

73 episodes into missing maura murray. Its long and intense but fascinating and I really like the presenters.
Really liked in the dark too and Missing and murdered -finding cleo which is less crime but a real insight into a programme of adoption in America of indigenous indian children.

ednclouda · 19/06/2018 18:06

'small town horror' is good and 'creepy' is another one great for listening in the dark

tobee · 27/06/2018 00:01

The Doorstep Murder. Just getting into it. Oh

LittleLebowski · 30/06/2018 06:38

The Murder Mile www.murdermiletours.com/podcast.html based on crimes set in one square mile of London is well worth a listen. The writer does a tour as well, hence the 'tour' part of that link. Some are harrowing, such as a horrendous fire in a nightclub, but others, though grim subjects, are very entertaining. I recommend the episode about the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko. The mess made by the Russians in two failed attempts to try and get him to drink polonium laced tea is unbelievable and terrifying. It helped put the Skripal affair in to context for me.
I'm not a big fan of true crime podcasts though. If I'm listening, I find myself locking the doors and getting freaked out by the cat!

FishFingerInjury · 12/07/2018 10:05

The Teachers Pet is really good, it’s an Australian podcast based on the disappearance of a woman in the 80s.

Good if you like Casefile and the like.

Mankymonkey · 12/07/2018 14:05

Thanks for putting me on to Murder Mile little. Quite different to others in that there is no investigative element or interviews but a story well told.

Koalablue · 13/07/2018 08:06

Ive just started The Teachers Pet. It is so well done and so strange.
I also listen to The Bill Podcast. Every month a cast member is interviewed.
Also womans hour because its the only way i can listen.

nicebitofquiche · 15/07/2018 21:22

Sword and scale is very excellent. But can be very graphic and gory. Be warned.

EmmaStone · 19/07/2018 09:29

Thank you for recommending My Favourite Murder, am hooked!

RooDaisy · 24/07/2018 16:58

Shattered - Black Friday

MabelStark · 24/07/2018 22:50

I too am hooked on My Favourite Murder. Interesting and occasionally hilarious. And I want to BE Karen when I grow up!

tobee · 08/08/2018 18:34

@FishFingerInjury and @Koalablue re The Teacher's Pet is episode 12 the last one? Or is it ongoing? Just about to start episode 12.

LittleLebowski · 24/08/2018 16:28

Thanks for the recommendations - finally decided to give The Teacher's Pet a go and just finished it. Angry Outrageous lapses in the investigation and sweeping under the carpet of the conduct of teachers. I see in the news that the goings-on in some of those schools in the northern suburbs of Sydney from that time are now going to be investigated by NSW police. All from the interest in this podcast. Awful stuff, but a very interesting listen.

tobee · 04/09/2018 00:40

Fwiw I've just got into Astonishing Legends podcast. One of many podcasts recommended on the Death in Ice Valley podcast Facebook group. I'm listening to their episodes on Somerton Man which has things in common with Death in Ice Valley and is a bit of an old chestnut beloved of fans of the unexplained. Again the appeal for me is the style of the two American guys who present. It seems to be a series of podcasts about unsolved stories etc, and is more storytelling rather than investigative reportage.

nicebitofquiche · 04/09/2018 20:58

A new one called Dr Death starts in a few days time. It sounds good as is from the same people who did Dirty John.

LittleLebowski · 04/09/2018 22:22

Ooh just listened to the first DrDeath today nicebitofquiche! I thought it was very good - shocking events with a wider political critique to come. Well told with a mix of storytelling and personal accounts.

nicebitofquiche · 04/09/2018 22:55

Don't know it had already started littlelebowski. I can't wait to hear it.

GoneWishing · 09/10/2018 13:08

Happy Face seems interesting. It's about Melissa Moore, the daughter of Keith Hunter Jesperson (the happy face killer), and is probably going to be more of a mini-series. All the stories of serial killers always leave me wondering how horrible it must be not just for the victims' families, but for the killers' families as well, to find this out about their family member, so it's an angle I'm definitely interested in hearing about. So far it's very moving.

SoHumble · 09/10/2018 18:08

Keep the recommendations coming. I’m totally obsessed with podcasts Grin

LittleLebowski · 09/10/2018 22:01

Gonefishing I've listened to the first 2 Happy Face episodes. Am I right in thinking Melissa Moore was involved in writing about crime as well as being the daughter of a serial killer? That's what I thought from episode 1, as Melissa sounds very professional rather than someone just talking about her past. The story gave me chills as you hear her increasing realisation from an adult's view point that her dad was obviously not right to begin with. Very unusual perspective.

Beeblot · 09/10/2018 22:14

There's a new series of Someone Knows Something out very soon...

tobee · 13/10/2018 23:17

Just finished Bowraville (from The Australian newspaper, like Teacher's Pet) and S- Town before that. Both excellent.

tobee · 13/10/2018 23:19

Btw I joined the Facebook group for Death in Ice Valley and there were at least 2 questions and very long list of replies with podcast recommendations.

PastyMuncher · 20/10/2018 17:12

Monsters Who Murder is really good as is Australian True Crime. I have also just finished one called Uncover: Escaping NXIVM which is based on a woman who left a cult. Very interesting. I love crime podcats!
