Brian is over a barrel, Alice has drained the barrel and Shula has given it to Alistair with both barrels - The Archers is not exactly a barrel of laughs at the moment.

Thanks to @LillianGish for the thread title.

OMG birdsdestiny That's just what I thought! Well there should be a gay woman on TA. I also noticed that Hannah has been specifically called a stunner!

JessieMcJessie · 06/05/2018 12:57

Isn’t Carole’s daughter Anna (Helen’s barrister) gay? Still potential for her to return perhaps.

I think that the Hannah line was just for her to end up falling for him after a “hilarious” will-they won’t they storyline.

birdsdestiny · 06/05/2018 13:08

To be fair ppeats and mine storyline sounds much better than that.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/05/2018 13:30

Hannah certainly wasn't gay the last time she was in Ambridge. She was very taken with Chris Carter, although he only had eyes for Alice.

Of course, the New Editor may or may not know this.

So, Hannah and...

Kirsty?

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2018 16:16

No don't wish Jazzer on any self respecting woman Jessie.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/05/2018 17:48

Hannah is too smart for Jazzer. He's only happy when he's manipulated someone into doing what he wants - he'd be a dreadful boyfriend.

Am I the only person loving Brian at the moment? I have a soft spot for him for some weird reason.

Excitingly, David Archer and Lilian are doing a talk locally next month which I'm thrilled about! In the blurb, it says that Tim Bentinck is the voice of the Mind the Gap announcement on the Piccadilly line. That's something to add to my store of entirely useless information :)

cheminotte · 06/05/2018 18:05

I think if Fallon had decided that marriage was the sensible option then they’d be off to the register office ppeat But a special savings account sounds like a big do to me, which is a long way from ‘I don’t believe in marriage’

choccyp1g · 06/05/2018 19:35

So what has happened to Carole? It would make sense to hear her telling Jill to Mind Her Own Business re Shula and Alastair.

ppeatfruit · 06/05/2018 21:19

You can have bit of both though cheminotte . DD2 got married in a registry office, they had 9 bridesmaids and 8 ushers, the works!

We got married in a Cathedral with one bridesmaid! we didn't pay much at all!

BikingBeatrix · 07/05/2018 00:12

Carole’s had various other roles on R4 - no doubt elsewhere too - in the last while. I like to think she/Eleanor Bron disliked the way her character was painted and sought other work, maybe even ditched TA. I suppose TA management will have to decide what to do with the character. She was quite an odd character really.

OuaisMaisBon · 07/05/2018 06:13

Orchid, I'm sorry to say, I don't think Tim Bentinck is the "Mind the Gap" voice any longer; on the other hand, did you know he is the Earl of Portland, 8th Count Bentinck? He's also an inventor, I believe and I think he may write children's books, though that I may have made up! A man of many talents, with a gorgeous voice! Speaking of which, I am also a fan of Brian, in some situations - possibly because I've heard Charles Collingwood on JAM and other R4 progs, and he seems like a nice bloke, and I've conflated the two!
I'd love to be at that talk but it's a bit of a long way to drop in on from the desert. Grin

ppeatfruit · 07/05/2018 08:14

Iam feeling sorry for Brian at the moment, I've noticed someone who might be interested in buying some land, Justin, hasn't been mentioned lately.

LillianGish · 07/05/2018 09:50

Agree Ppeat - Justin will almost certainly be the buyer. Of course Brian could presumably get more for land if he sold it with planning permission, but if the SWs expand Ambridge too much they’ll have to introduce more characters.

ppeatfruit · 07/05/2018 11:08

I noticed that it's Jake n' Mia now, The SWs have at last noticed that they had left her out for a while!

Poor Will it looks like they'll have to come to an agreement, or actually ask the children where they want to live.

HatingTheBigShow · 07/05/2018 18:19

Why should Will have any rights to Jake and Mia? I'm horrified at the the thought of a future widowed step-mum having a claim over my children.

LassWiADelicateAir · 07/05/2018 18:37

Why should Will have any rights to Jake and Mia?

I didn't understand this either.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/05/2018 19:05

Bugger. Pip's back. Angry

LassWiADelicateAir · 07/05/2018 19:10

I thought Adam voted for Brexit? Yet he is now wittering on about the shortage of temporary pickers?

Is he a complete idiot?

OuaisMaisBon · 07/05/2018 19:26

I understand the Jake and Mia thing being part of the strange Grundy family Ambridge bubble, but was a bit confused by all the acceptance on here about it - there seems to me to be no question that Will has no parental responsibility for or rights over those two now Nick is dead, and I don't understand why anyone should think he does.

LassWiADelicateAir · 07/05/2018 20:00

OuaisMaisBon

I agree. I know MN is very keen on step children being treated exactly the same as blood relatives and blood/step relationships being no different but here we have a whole tribe of Grundys none of whom apart from Poppy is a blood relative.

And on the other hand Jake and Mia thave their own father who clearly is a major part of their lives, their paternal grandmother and I think a maternal grandmother

LillianGish · 07/05/2018 20:05

Is he a complete idiot? Yes he is.

OuaisMaisBon · 07/05/2018 21:48

Yes, I never got why Brian was so pro-Brexit, either, given the Hungarian enterprise, though that is now out of the picture, though for non Brexit-related reasons. But it was sheer stupidity for Adam to be pro-Brexit, simply in relation to the circumstances of fruit-pickers, I always thought.
Any farmers on here care to put forward their own point of view about Brexit? (I have nothing to hide, I am not a farmer, I don't currently live in the UK or the EU and I am a furious Remainer who voted to join the Common Market in 1975.)

echt · 07/05/2018 22:24

Brian hiding information yet again. Then he wonders why he was put aside by the rest of the partnership.

Wondering if Harrsion's review will have him transferred to another area, more urban, like "Hot Fuzz" in reverse.

LassWiADelicateAir · 07/05/2018 22:56

I know a lot of farmers and agri- business advisers, including farmers with operations at the Alridge end of the scale. I don't know a single one who was in favour of Brexit.

Bekabeech · 07/05/2018 23:22

Well the big fruit grower near me was very vocally pro Brexit. He is now just as vocal about not getting anyone to pick fruit. Unlike Home Farm they have employed one "British" fruit picker in the last 10 years, and they didn't last 2 weeks.

I have heard that he will move production to China.
