Brian is over a barrel, Alice has drained the barrel and Shula has given it to Alistair with both barrels - The Archers is not exactly a barrel of laughs at the moment.

Thanks to @LillianGish for the thread title.

Tonight DH was risking his life talking over TA but I thought I heard a comment from Helen or Pat about Kirsty's new relationship and hoping Tom was okay with it. Did I make that up?
May have to listen again -and kill DH-

R4 · 27/03/2018 22:40

Yes, Pat was being insufferable tonight. Not only was she being outraged that Kirsty was Moving On (how dare she, especially when Tom hasn't yet) but she was fussing round Helen like she was barely older or more competent than Henwee. And as for "I might be making Rose feel inferior" ... words fail me.

SoMuchToBits · 27/03/2018 23:57

Did anyone hear the continuity announcer after tonight's episode? About how it will make hard listening tomorrow as the Aldridges implode? Shock

I guess that will be the toxic waste dumping coming home to roost.

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/03/2018 00:09

I think Shula and alistair should say together - they'll only bore others to death if re partner with anyone

The Carlyle and Mrs Carlyle quote comes to mind.

EBearhug · 28/03/2018 00:17

Just checking in.

PrincessFiorimonde · 28/03/2018 00:27

Thanks for the new thread!

Waiting for the 'hard listening' tomorrow ...

But, in the meantime, Lass, what is the 'Carlyle and Mrs Carlyle' quote, please?

MrsKwazii · 28/03/2018 00:35

Just passing back your 🔮 Bore (I’ve polished it and everything) All the Grundies at Grange Farm as predicted last thread. Trouble for Ed and Emma ahead, then. I can’t see Jake and Mia ever coming back.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/03/2018 00:56

Did you predict it or did I MrsK?

Good call, whichever of us it was Grin

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/03/2018 00:57

Samuel Butler remarked that it was "very good of God to let Carlyle and Mrs Carlyle marry one another, and so make only two people miserable instead of four".

LassWiADelicateAir · 28/03/2018 01:00

I understand the remark is a little unfair on Jane Carlyle but Thomas Carlyle seems to have been a miserable contrarian.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/03/2018 01:03

Ah, have just checked and it was you, MrsKwazii

Excellent prediction. Well done. Keep up the good work!

You may borrow the 🔮 every second Wednesday.

PrincessFiorimonde · 28/03/2018 01:11

Thanks, Lass Grin

JanettheNotebookJunkie · 28/03/2018 06:16

.

prettywhiteguitar · 28/03/2018 07:17

I really think that Shula is rewriting history with all this, I fell out of love years ago. She’s been getting upset about alistar every week, if she didn’t love him she wouldn’t have noticed or cared.

She thinks she can bag herself a great passionate new man like Kirsty but she is the most boring flat character it would be impossible to believe in it.

As for Alice and her drinking problem, it really is a bore, the usual bbc clunky way of dealing with ishoos.

Also can’t bear listening to the smugness of Pat and Helen, can we not have anything inbetween with them, they are either suffering or unbearably smug

Eastpoint · 28/03/2018 08:30

Thank you for the new thread Pseudo & the title Lilian.

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2018 09:08

Brilliant new title Lilian and thanks for the thread Psuedo .

OOooooh yeeees I heard the CA last night too, mmmmm what do we reckon is going to happen?

Brian is going to end up, dahn the cop shop behind bars and is going to blame Ruth.

R4 · 28/03/2018 09:13

It's the partnership meeting this afternoon. I'm guessing that Ruth will not spill the beans, because she promised not to, but JD will. When it comes out that Ruth knew but the DC didn't then the TCE will hit the fan.

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2018 09:19

Yes it won't actually be Ruth but somehow all will be revealed and she'll get the blame . Brian is not keen on her anyway.

CaptainCardamom · 28/03/2018 09:43

Am loving the slow and sticky downfall of "I could go to prison!!!" Brine. He said that as if it would be a bad thing :o

Also I love it when the continuity announcers get involved. There was one where the guy was introducing it and said "And now, things are getting difficult for Rob in the Archers. Excellent."

CaptainCardamom · 28/03/2018 09:45

I'd quite like Shula to spell out to someone exactly why she has to leave Alastair and give him a good slagging off. She just keeps saying it's over, but what really pisses her off about him?

R4 · 28/03/2018 10:08

Shula doesn't really have a reason. It's a combination of mid-life crisis and empty nest syndrome. Alistair has made the mistake of being dependable-but-dull.

Going back to holier-than-thou Ruth and the sainted Phil, I was googling TCE and found this Grin which mentions that Brookfield have done their own share of polluting the Am. Does anyone remember it?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 28/03/2018 10:23

Shula doesn't like herself very much.

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2018 10:27

Thanks for that link R4 It makes one wonder how much of that 'Trich' chemical is in our food etc. frightening.

One of the best arguments for going (or being) organic.

CaptainCardamom · 28/03/2018 10:35

They are both dullards but I'd have found it easier to believe him leaving her.

Still his bromance with Philip is hotting up.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/03/2018 11:03

Alistair was always Smugula's second choice. She really wanted DocLocke - remember how she flung herself at him when he returned to Ambridge and how mortified she was when she realised he was interested in Lizard?
