Brian is over a barrel, Alice has drained the barrel and Shula has given it to Alistair with both barrels - The Archers is not exactly a barrel of laughs at the moment.

Thanks to @LillianGish for the thread title.

OP posts:
OuaisMaisBon · 28/04/2018 15:27

I was wondering if Brian was either trying to flog off the contaminated land at a low price, or get rid of something that would directly affect Adam and completely bugger up his future, ppeatfruit?

LillianGish · 28/04/2018 15:39

Wouldn’t he need the agreement of the whole family (all the shareholders) to sell the farm? What else could he be selling? The operation Hungary? Maybe Debbie is coming back - that would upset Adam.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 28/04/2018 16:02

But he wants Ruari to inherit the farm so that doesn't feel right to me. It'll be something that stuffs up Adam's businesses - the land where he grows his strawberries or the deer bit?

Eastpoint · 29/04/2018 06:39

I don’t think Brian is selling anything, I think he was on hold to his insurance company or broker, waiting to hear what the insurance would pay out for the remedial work at Lower Mead.

Will sounds as if he is heading for a breakdown, keeping his parents in the dark about his job/housing, trying to fix everything for Jake. I don’t understand why he thinks Jake & Mia would want to live with their step father when they could live with their father, but I guess he is as traditional a man as they come (cricket team) and thinks of them as ‘his’ rather than people in their own right.

ppeatfruit · 29/04/2018 09:51

Lilian Is right about all the shareholders of Home Farm Quais

But surely Debbie would have to agree to the sale of the Hungarian land Lilian.?

Gruach · 29/04/2018 10:15

Have to admit I’m confused about the exact ownership of both the shoot and the Hungarian enterprise. (Regarding what Brian might possess and be able to sell.) I thought this on Borchester Land might help, but it’s a bit out of date.

Aethelthryth · 29/04/2018 10:38

Harrison and Fallon are one long public information broadcast: first it was "getting fit", now it's "financial responsibility". V dull

LillianGish · 29/04/2018 10:57

I think it’s deliberately not at all clear about who owns what and whose permission is required to sell what for ultimate plot flexibility. The recent storyline about handing over the control of the farm to the family seems to rule out any solo shenanigans on that score by Brian. I have no idea how this affects Hungary, the shoot whether it covers the various properties on the farm. Presumably whatever he is up to he is able to do as a sole signatory, but whatever it is will enrage the rest of the family. He’s feeling very sidelined by his expulsion from BL and by the fact that that he has tied his own hands at Home Farm so he will be trying assert his power in whatever way he can.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 29/04/2018 11:07

An old door = desk!

Jake will be thrilled.

ppeatfruit · 29/04/2018 13:41

Aethel I don't mind them at all, what would be better\less dull them getting high every night and hunting rats? !!!

echt · 29/04/2018 14:59

An old door = desk!

Excuse me. My desk is a door on two filing cabinets. Admittedly it was a new one, but cheap as chips..

ADarkandStormyKnight · 29/04/2018 15:29

I am given to such improvisation myself, Echt but I can't see it'll impress Jake.

And anyway, where do George and Mia do their homework? Where have they been doing it until now?

Silvertap · 29/04/2018 17:34

Lots of farms separate out the land from the working capital..

Eg Adam might have a share in the partnership profits and working capital but Brian might own the land outright.

OrchidInTheSun · 29/04/2018 20:21

I don't think Shula and Alastair have had sex for years so I can't imagine that happening now

savagehk · 29/04/2018 20:55

Alice has totally slept with someone at work. Comment today about not appreciating Chris and sticking up for daddy because he only made one mistake....?

2rebecca · 29/04/2018 21:15

As someone divorced and remarried I really don't get why Jake and Mia are still living with their stepfather, They have 1 parent and presumably 2 sets of grandparents none of which are Grundies.
If I had died I wouldn't have expected my kids to stay with my current husband. They'd have gone to live with their dad, probably fairly soon after the funeral with his parents helping. I don't recall Will getting parental responsibility although I only listen intermittently recently as it's a bit crap and OTT. Nick was another totally unnecessary young soap death.
I do get Shula finding it difficult to tell Alistair exactly why she no longer wants to be married to him though. Saying your marriage feels like a life sentence not a source of love and support is quite difficult. You only live once.
It's all very bizarre and unreal.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/04/2018 22:58

@2rebecca I agree. I cannot understand why Will is expecting Nicks kids to live with him. They would go and live with their parent surely.

Aethelthryth · 30/04/2018 07:13

ppeat They are quite a sweet couple; it's just that the conversations seem so contrived

ppeatfruit · 30/04/2018 07:34

2becca I reckon it's because Will is thinking what Nic would've wanted , especially , he's concentrating on Poppy who would miss her half siblings if they disappeared for half the week or whatever.

Sorry for the garbled grammar Blush

JessieMcJessie · 30/04/2018 08:46

I always thought that the Home Farm Hungarian enterprise was a minority share in an existing business, so Debbie works for a separate company with other management to answer to, hence we never hear of her consulting/asking Brian about the running of the enterprise.

I thought that alice’s comment about her and Chris being rubbish with money was odd-didn’t we have a protracted storyline in which Chris saved like mad to buy (or get a loan to buy) the van and then the forge?

LillianGish · 30/04/2018 08:56

Jessie I also thought Alice’s comment was odd. I think the scriptwriters have forgotten what Alice was like before they decided to give her a drink problem. Re. Will and Nic’s kids, I think he feels while ever they live with him he still has a bit of Nic with him. Losing them would be a step too far and the house would feel even emptier. Of course they should go and live with their dad and that is what will happen.

ppeatfruit · 30/04/2018 09:20

Well Chris and Alice DID save but now they don't need to , because they're bringing in good wages. I assume.

JessieMcJessie · 30/04/2018 09:25

Perhaps ppeat but the way Alice put it was as if they were both inherently bad with money and had no ability to change that behaviour.
