Does Paul Merton take JAM too seriously?

I’m not a huge fan of Just A Minute but the radio is always on when it is.
What I have noticed this series is that Paul Merton gets very touchy when someone else gets a point.

Am I alone?

Definitely. Drives me nuts and I can't listen to it if he's on.

The feminist in me has decided that he doesn’t like it when a woman picks him up on something, accept Josie.

I totally disagree. JAM used to be great fun when Paul Merton was competitive and tried to be the winner. He has been a bit boring merely going through the motions for a few years. Last night's show was a tour de force of his old surreal style.
I could never stand Clement Freud with his endless lists.

I very rarely listen to JAM these days. I did love it back in the 70s when the regulars were Clement Freud, Kenneth Williams, Peter Jones and Derek Nimmo. I think I would find most of it rather tiresome now but I was younger and less intolerant then and the quiz had novelty value. My mum always had the radio on in the kitchen when she was cooking or washing up or ironing and I have very fond associations of being in there with her with R4 on in the background. ISIHAC was my great favourite, though, then as now.

R4 · 20/03/2018 10:27

ISIHAC doesn't do it for me anymore (since Willy Rushton died, probably). It's tired and repetitive. And if we want to talk about misogyny ... Shock

BusterTheBulldog · 20/03/2018 10:33

I don’t understand why there’s not a podcast of it?!

SimonBridges · 20/03/2018 18:03

ISIHAC is getting very dull. They had the perfect chance to knock it on the head when Humph died.

It’s the same tired jokes every single week.

Agree about ISIHAC, they should have let it die with Humph. When Nicholas Parsons goes I hope they will let JAM go with him and encourage new writing/ideas.

I love it when PM pops Gyles Brandreth’s smugathons on JAM

ppeatfruit · 25/04/2018 12:59

Exactly Andromeda I love JAM and Paul Merton on it., I also love Gyles Brandreth, he's funny and isn't particularly pompous. I can't believe Nick Parsons is over 90 .

Gasp did you hear the programme about it? Introduced\presented by PM I thought it was a lovely tribute to NP before he pops his clogs.
