I'm here. Towel at the ready!

Iwantacampervan · 08/03/2018 18:35

It's exactly 40 years since it was first broadcast.
I'm here with towel!

My 10yo and I have damp towels wrapped round our heads in anticipation.

nobutreally · 08/03/2018 18:40

OMG - had forgotten this - tuning in now (peanuts at the ready...)

BlarneyRubble · 08/03/2018 18:46

Sass all you hoopy foods! I will go and find my towel forthwith.

BlarneyRubble · 08/03/2018 18:47

DAMN. Froods not foods #geekfail.

I was disappointed. And a bit confused, it didn't seem to be following on from the last Hitch-hiker novel. I thought I'd read them all (unless there are loads of non Douglas Adams fan fiction novels they also include) but it started very strangely and didn't have a linear time frame which made it more confusing for the start of a new series.

RemainOptimistic · 08/03/2018 22:10

Oo!

Cavender · 08/03/2018 22:11

Looking forward to listening to this on iPlayer at the weekend with my DS (a huge DA fan)

cornflakegirl · 08/03/2018 23:00

I was disappointed too. Hoping there might be some actual plot in the next one.

Iwantacampervan · 09/03/2018 07:04

It was confusing but they did give a brief outline of what each character had been doing - I think I've missed some though so I'll read the novels I've got again.
However, I can't get used to 'The Book' not being Peter Jones and Jim Broadbent's voice is not Marvin's. As an aside, Jim (then James) Broadbent was in the 1978 radio production with minor roles as was David Jason.

To my mind John Lloyd is one of the smuggest people in the known Universe and so with him as The Book I couldn't bring myself to listen to this.

RockNRollNerd · 09/03/2018 10:29

Agree it was confusing and a bit disappointing, DS was very excited as he'd read all the books over the last couple of years and we've listened to the radio shows on CD in the car - even he said it wasn't great.

There was a lot to 'catch up' on so it might settle down a bit hopefully. Will listen next week but might not stick with it if it doesn't improve...

R4 · 09/03/2018 22:37

True.

It felt a bit like a sixth-former's attempt at fanfic; too much copycat and not enough originality. We'll give it time to settle.

echt · 12/03/2018 09:26

Lots of catch-up there, I thought, though Stephen Hawkins as Book Mark 2 was rather good.

echt · 14/03/2018 06:07

And it's been proved to be a swan song.[sad}

And what a swan.

R4 · 14/03/2018 09:10

Indeed.
I suppose that his life story is almost as bizarre and preposterous as H2G2.Smile
