I've been a lifelong Archers listener but the Kirsty miscarriage was a storyline too far for me at the time so I took a sabbatical for a few months. It's a shame as it meant missing the Lilian/Justn shenanigans but, more to the point, I missed finding out what Toby was up to in Brighton. Please can someone fill me in?

Also, does anyone else think the Toby and Rex characters should have had each other's name? Rex sounds more like a cocky git and Tobys are usually quite nice IME.

Toe-Bee has an ex-girlfriend in Brighton and IIRC she has a drug dependency.

My friend had a very energetic but stupid springer spaniel called Toby, whereas Rex to me is a dignified regal name (even though it’s popular for dogs!).

Yes, the Brighton thing was more or less tied up by Toby finally explaining the situation to Pip, but nothing came of it. The story was I think that the ex had a drug problem and frequently went off on suicidal benders and Tobes was the only one who could talk her down, so to speak, and he felt guilty for breaking up with her and perhaps contributing to her mental health problems. Miraculously, as soon as he fessed up all to Pip the unstable ex never needed him again...

I agree with you that the Kirsty miscarriage story was an awful thing to do to a nice character (though she’s been annoying me later) and it felt like she had been picked at random to highlight an issue.
