Thanks, R4, for the title (again!).

I'm your temporary host while PseudoBadger is on her sabbatical / prison term / secret mission.

Old hands and complete newbies all welcome.

Spoilers (eg Radio Times descriptions of future programmes) not welcome.

When will Matt reappear? Before / during / after the wedding?

The floor is yours...

I loved old Harrys game but it went on a bit long. The problem with the long running ones is that they end up recycling the jokes too much

'Young Dumb & Broke'!!!

BOOOOOOOOP

I love Tom Wrigglesworth’s hang ups. It’s the cringe worthy element of truth I can see in them which is particularly special...

The programme is all about phone calls and relationships between different generations. The Archers has phone calls and different generations. Anyone heard of it?

Minimammoth · 18/10/2017 19:21

Another tome wrigglesworth, too. Reminds me of homeSmile

Minimammoth · 18/10/2017 19:22

Don’t know what happened there

DadDadDad · 18/10/2017 19:34

How do they think half a term in an UK college is going to help with the continuity of Nolitando's SA education? Surely they would have been much better selling it as a cultural and social experience - which is what Freddie essentially (and successfully) did in his own way. Kate would have surely been more receptive to that angle too.

, so you can tell what my opinion on CAS is. :o
Teenyftroon · 18/10/2017 20:51

Confession - I love Cabin Pressure even more than TA! I have the podcasts on a sort of loop and anytime I need something to listen to, I call it up and carry on through the series. Perfect, and the characters never do anything out of character. Sheer bliss.

TheAntiBoop · 18/10/2017 22:49

I really don't like the Jim vs Robert battles. They're really quite unpleasant and spiteful

How do they think half a term in an UK college is going to help with the continuity of Nolitando's SA education?

All over the country , except in Ambridge, listeners were thinking that thought; along with can a non UK domiciled child even join a college halfway through term on a temporary basis?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/10/2017 00:38

Nerdy fact of the day: Graham Follows was Jilted John (this might mean something to the over 50s) and does all the voices on JS, not just John's

Oh I knew JS was Jilted John what I didn't know until 30 seconds ago was JS was fictional. Blimey.

Binkybix · 19/10/2017 07:06

So I was browsing a facts book about radio 4 yesterday and it gave viewing figures for the Archers. Anyone want to guess? It didn’t specify if per night or including Sunday I’m afraid.

Eastpoint · 19/10/2017 07:51

Going back to the Archers, I thought Robert sounded far less prepared than he would have been when he was talking to Brian. Surely Robert has always been the competent Snell in the background who has sorted Lynda’s efforts out when things have run amok?

BertrandRussell · 19/10/2017 07:55

Yes, the Robert/Jim thibg is tedious. And out of character for both of them. It's deorsssing if Jim is only supporting Emma to get at Jim. He is much more likely to be doing it because he genuinely doesn't like a stitch up.

BertrandRussell · 19/10/2017 07:56

Depressing, even.

ppeatfruit · 19/10/2017 08:02

I really don't like the Robert v Jim battles

They're silly but very true to life . Jim has an unpleasant side to him. Remember how mean he was to Shula? (though I know that some of you would be on his side there) Grin She's not picking the right time to confront Al atm.

He's quite a rounded character. Like Robert.

BertrandRussell · 19/10/2017 08:07

Yes he was horrible to Shula, but he apologised and they sorted it out. I don't think he's pettt by nature and i think Alasdair could be. It would be a much better story if Jim was doing it out of a of a sense of social justice and a bit of winding Robert up out of what my fil called "badness"

And it would be a much better

ppeatfruit · 19/10/2017 08:14

Well as he's a silent character at the moment (maybe the actor is ill?) We don't know his motives.

ppeatfruit · 19/10/2017 08:15

Also people get more 'acid' as they get older; dsis is turning into a terrible nag!

Binkybix · 19/10/2017 08:48

Ok don’t all rush at once to guess! It was 5 million. Surprised me anyway.

ppeatfruit · 19/10/2017 08:57

Well it is difficult to "view " TA Binky Grin Do they mean 'hearing' figures? Just the omnibus or all of it? Do they count the www?

Binkybix · 19/10/2017 09:47

Good point! Listening figures then 😄

They didn’t say if it was all listeners combined. It a coffee table book so not sure how much rigour was applied!

Binkybix · 19/10/2017 09:50

I’ve done a bit more (swift) research: it’s per week so includes daily plus Sunday, so may not all be ‘unique’ users. However, looks like it doesn’t include online.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/10/2017 10:01

Jim isn't silent, ppeatfruit. He spoke to Emma last week.

Before TV got going properly in the UK, the listening figures for TA were astronomical. 20 million people heard the episode where Grace Archer died in the fire (1955).
