Seeing as DH now has an alexa in almost every room in the house (yes really) and I have r4 on 24/7, i was wondering of anybody can recommend something like r4 from another country? Has to be in english. And am I right in thinking you can access almost anything through the tune-in app?

I was going to suggest R4extra!

GandalfsWrinklyHat · 06/08/2017 23:47

I hate to admit is but I find life with very young children soul destroyingly boring and r4 has really been a lifesaver, its on 24/7. I just thought I might 'broaden my horizons' a bit iykwim

It has a very different feel but have you ever listened to NPR in the US - www.npr.org/? You'll find stuff like TED Radio Hour. Or how about The Moth - themoth.org/story-library/radio-hour?

Politicspanda · 07/08/2017 20:00

You need some good podcasts but I'm not sure if you can get them through Alexa. Probably I'd have thought.

nauticant · 07/08/2017 20:01

Bah! I meant to tag you @GandalfsWrinklyHat.

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2017 20:03

I was going to say R4 Extra too!
Five Live can be quite good too (it's not all sport!, lots of new discussion too).

CBW · 07/08/2017 20:04

How about the World Service?

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2017 20:06

Can you get podcasts on Alexa? I get R4 podcasts of Woman's House (can be pretty in depth) to catch up on.

Also The Infinite Monkey Cage podcast.

HelenaJustina · 07/08/2017 20:09

I liked World Service during night breastfeeds...

7to25 · 07/08/2017 20:12

RTE?
Addicted to Sunday misceleny (and not Irish)

ChainingDaisy · 07/08/2017 20:15

I also really like world service.

I meant podcasts outside R4 really. There are so, so many on iTunes for free for example. Have a good browse and see what you like the look of.

GandalfsWrinklyHat · 07/08/2017 22:49

Thanks for all the suggestions, going to try out alexa's magic powers ;)

If you listen to R4 all day, every day, you do realise just how many repeats they have.

R3 has some good programmes, Free Thinking, the Essay. R4extra, as suggested.

EBearhug · 07/08/2017 22:59

I have a ton of In Our Time podcasts downloaded for when I've no Wi-Fi, but I don't know if Alexander does that.

scaredofthecity · 07/08/2017 23:01

I'd definately try podcasts. I really recommend 'This American life' to start with.
