Tom's tendency to get obsessive about his little ventures is bloody irritating, though. It really wasn't appropriate to hijack Helen's moment of glory to promote his fungus stuff.

No but that has never really stopped Tom from doing anything - his ego and willingness to trample over others has a lot in common with Brian's.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/07/2017 11:15

Love how Chipolata Boy has morphed into Kimchi Kid Grin

Has this Happy Friends venture been around for long? I don't recall ever hearing it mentioned before. And who is it for? (have not been paying a lot of attention lately)

ppeatfruit · 16/07/2017 11:32

Bore The Happy Friends is a "pop up" restaurant.

It was a bit odd that Helen had to go home from the awards ceremony to give Henry a remedy for his temperature. Was Pat or Tony looking after him? Couldn't they have done it?

ppeatfruit · 16/07/2017 11:35

Sorry 'were' looking after him.. That is strange too, why weren't they there? They could've got a babysitter.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/07/2017 11:41

Thanks ppeat - who popped it up though? Who are the clientele and staff? Is it some sort of charitable volunteer outfit?

So many questions - I must pay more attention.

C8H10N4O2 · 16/07/2017 11:54

who popped it up though?

Probably whichever LSW heard about the concept and thought it would be a good opportunity for the saints to burnish their halos and the sinners to be pushed into lower circle.

Its all a bit good-cause-of-the-week, rather like the foodbank which was mentioned a few times and then dropped. It would be more interesting if they were trying to open one and making a story around that.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/07/2017 11:59

Ah, right. Thanks C8, same old same old then. And I assume that half of Ambridge is staffing it on a volunteer basis, the other half, of course, are staffing the village shop.

C8H10N4O2 · 16/07/2017 12:06

Yes probably - and not worrying too much about the food qualifications needed Grin.

I did think the foodbank was going to be an interesting storyline for a while, rather than just an opportunity to burnish StS's halo. Not heard it mentioned in a long time now.

I just listened to last night's episode and a rant spewed forth about Eddie Grundy. He's not a loveable old rogue, he's a fucking bully. He knew full well he hadn't cancelled those guests properly and he lied about the Grey Gables threat. His plan was to have Clarrie yet again do all the grunt work and smiley hosting requirements whilst in the midst of grieving for Caroline and worrying about the impending arrival of Oliver. It suddenly struck me after all these years, while I thought of him as mostly harmless and useless that actually he's a prize sneaky little bully and a misogynistic arse who pretty much pretends to be 'daft' to cover his manipulative steps. Wanker.

R4 · 17/07/2017 12:05

I agree that Eddie overstepped the mark from lovable old rogue last night. He's done it a couple of times recently and I find that I am less and less forgiving.
Mind you, Clarrie's an idiot for trusting him to do the cancellations. You think by now that she would have the measure of his duplicity.
But, as I have to remind myself, it's a drama so we have to have these moments. I see it as being on a par with Jill getting tiresomely het up and holier-than-thou about Happy Friends.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2017 12:16

Oooh it's gone quiet. So Oliver is going to discover the "Rigby's" at his house, will he be annoyed?

BOOP for Eddie asking Lynda to do him favour by taking his unwanted guests!

Fink · 17/07/2017 12:18

I said to DM last night how did Clarrie end up in that family?! I wasn't listening when they first got together (I probably wasn't born) so I don't know how she and Eddie became an item, but ever since I have been conscious of TA it's been clear that she is lovely but is surrounded by [insert sweary words, I'm not sure which] useless men. Eddie and Joe are worst, but Will and Ed aren't exactly wonderful either. She's never done anything to deserve such punishment, as far as I can tell.

R4 · 17/07/2017 12:29

Don't forget Alf, too.
I still have a fairly soft spot for Ed but he is running out of time. He was cute in a puppy-like way when younger but he needs to grow up at some stage, though it looks like he will emulate his father in never learning from past mistakes.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2017 12:31

IIRC Fink He was fanciable when young, ( even with the strange cowboy hat including horns ) and maybe she thought she could change him . She's a bit limited I suppose. But lovely as you say.

Fink · 17/07/2017 12:53

I don't like Ed. The SWs have tried to gloss over it, but shacking up with your brother's wife isn't just a youthful indiscretion (I think Emma is to blame too, but she's not the issue here). And he was a misogynistic idiot recently over Emma's job at the packing factory. He's not an awful person/character, but still not a wonderful one.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2017 12:57

We couldn't have ALL the families of one posh class though . The Grundy's are 'almost ' the acceptable face of the rural working classes.

Fink · 17/07/2017 13:08

I don't mind them being working class, I mind them being horrible men. Neil is working class and (mostly) nice. Chris is great, whatever class he counts as. Roy is ok. Jazzer has redeeming qualities. Harrison is good. It's like all the awful ones have been shoved together in the Grundys (and I had forgotten Alf, until you mentioned him R4) with nice Clarrie. And Emma and Nic.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2017 13:13

Well there's not much to redeem Jazzer , only since he's been staying with Jim.

The Grundies could be worse. Hmm Will is the worst IMO.

R4 · 17/07/2017 13:27

Tbf, Ed'n'Em were a thing before Will'n'Em. Emma married Will for the wrong reasons and later regretted it.
Besides which, two siblings after the one object of attraction seems to be a recurring TA theme. I hadn't realised until the other day that Roger Travers-Macy (Debbie's dad) had been out with Lil before he married JD. Another one to add to the list!

Add George to the tally of horrible Grundy menfolk.

EBearhug · 17/07/2017 13:35

Roy is ok.

If you ignore the racist physical attacks he was involved in c1995. No surprise to me he voted Brexit.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2017 13:35

I suppose in a small community that sort of thing is more likely to occur.

Not George , give him a chance, he's only young R4 (I admit he doesn't seem to have started well).

Mootsie · 17/07/2017 19:25

So, is Auntie Chris going to sell Woodbine cottage to Harrison and Fallon and lose invest all the money in Matt's dodgy horsey enterprise?

EBearhug · 18/07/2017 00:35

I wondered that, but Harrison and Fallon were complaining about the lack of space there.

Ceto · 18/07/2017 06:39

Why on earth was Piggoi constantly whinging on about Christine not mentioning that Harrison and Fallon might be moving out? Does she think she has some sort of duty of disclosure to her?
