David Beckham on Desert Island Discs

I'm no big Beckham fan but he came over really well. Nice choice of music too.

I think anyone who claims to be an avid reader (which CM does - it's how she educated herself apparently) would read anything in the absence of anything else, so to say she wouldn't read Shakespeare or the Bible just didn't ring true. Also agree those books are just there so guests don't choose them (people of other faiths are offered the equivalent alternative to the Bible). Loved DB - listened to the extended edition and interesting it was all about him - even to the extent of his choice of luxury item.

Secret big fan of David. He just comes across as so likeable and genuine.

I was disappointed by DB. To my ears it sounded like he was parroting what his PR had told him to say.

I thought that too R4. He sounded very media-trained/coached in the right phrases.

I loved him, he came over as very genuine. Nice guy.

I really loved him on it - but now all that stuff has come out over his hacked emails, he sounds like he's utterly controlled by his PR people, so now I'm just not sure where the PR machine ends and the real David begins...
