Ho ho ho! Will this thread last until Christmas?

OP posts:
TheMortificadosDragon · 10/12/2016 09:38

I thought that was the incident when she cooked what might have been a normal amount for sedentary people but not enough for people with physically active jobs (it was before tobee fell out with rex and was still doing a hands turn). This directly led to the flapjack theft and her inviting toby to move in.

Let that be a lesson to us to raise our children to understand energy input/output and ethics!Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/12/2016 09:42

Do the Brookfield lot get disproportionate air time?

They always seem to be on, yet they are hideously dull and irritating.

Imbroglio · 10/12/2016 09:51

Brookfield are the Ambridge 'First Family' so yes, we are stuck with them.

TheAntiBoop · 10/12/2016 10:58

Well she didn't make enough for Toby (does he actually do anything?) and then admitted it wasn't enough for her

ppeatfruit · 10/12/2016 13:09

dairyfarmerswife Xmas Grin Xmas Grin I 've missed you , I was thinking you'd changed your name!!! Welcome back !!!

I was going to ask you if you knew about herbal leys etc.

Have just re-read some of NBS Archers Columns, is it just me or does the most recent one have a different style to it. Very much 'Name of character - sentence of what happened, name of next character - brief recap of what they did'. Much less of the amusing ponderings and assessment of what's happened/how the listener reacted. I'm struggling to put my finger on it but I do wonder if some sub-editors had a very heavy hand in it/ghost wrote some of it... I hope she's ok.

dairyfarmerswife · 10/12/2016 19:58

Hi ppeat no, still here, just less time to post somehow - I can barely keep up with the threads. I am a bit concerned for Jill, either we are in for a dementia storyline, or they've given her a personality transplant. The fixation on Toby is a bit weird - that convo with Ruth last week where Jill kept bringing up Toby every time Ruth changed the subject, and then the mention of how Hollowtree was where she and Phil were first together, and with no history of Grace.... It's either that she's lost her marbles or they are reminding us of the past. It's very clunky either way

Tuktuktaker · 10/12/2016 19:58

RockNRollNerd, I said something similar about that last article by NBS on the previous thread earlier this week but nobody noticed So it's not just you, I felt there was definitely something off-kilter about it, as if some phrases had been dictated but they weren't written/interpreted in the right order. Also, I don't think it was quite as long as her usual articles. And the sub definitely is not a listener.

LowDudgeon · 10/12/2016 21:27

Tuktuk, I also queried sub-editor Archers knowledge (or not) (& Nancy's knowledge of dingleberries (or not) )

Some of it did read like Nancy, but some of it definitely didn't.

She's very old, you know. I do worry about her. Sad

Olympiathequeen · 10/12/2016 22:09

I actually felt sorry for Rob! Someone give me a slap.

Olympia Have a kick up the bum [from me] Sorry but REALLY feeling sorry for Knob, he's getting his just desserts if you ask me.

TheAntiBoop · 11/12/2016 09:20

I know what you mean Olympia- if you weren't a listener and privy to all his behaviour!

If you were a generic villager you may well think he's not a very nice guy but he's not been convicted of a crime and now he's being denied access to his kids.

I think he has to go to prison. Given how excellent the mental health teams seem to be he should get intensive care in a psychiatric unit

TheSilveryPussycat · 11/12/2016 12:56

Belated thanks for the thread Brew Brew

I feel back to normal re Archers. I used to hate spoilers, but my new strategy is to read this thread, then listen to the film. Whether I will have anything pertinent to add is another matter, but

puzzled by the apparent erasing of Shula and Dr Locke's affair
felt pity for Rob but will pass on the bucket of cold water...

lottiegarbanzo · 11/12/2016 16:35

Just caught up with Thursdays episode this morning. Enjoying Alan's crisis of faith over the irredeemability of Rob - that could lead somewhere interesting.

Anisha's going to cause Alistair pain with her pushy ambitiousness isn't she.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/12/2016 16:39

Hello! Just marking place afraid. Not listened for a couple of days

Cromwell1536 · 11/12/2016 19:01

Possibly NBC can't summon her usual brio in response to the flaccid, barely-warmed-over crap that has been on offer recently. My hopes are pinned on a Lear-type stand off between Oh Brhhhhinne and Debbeee to perk matters up. Or should that be, up to perk matters.

TheAntiBoop · 11/12/2016 20:37

This is going to end badly for Brian

Justin waffling on about how much he could've ton the open market is bullshit. Brian is being ripped off in one way or another. There's probably a massive sink hole on the land which is going to eat Justin's land so he can sue Brian or something. And Brian needs an independent valuation.

And 'say it how it is' Peggy - not up to asking Justin why he hired her granddaughters rapist?

TheMortificadosDragon · 11/12/2016 21:48

Of course, Brine may choke to death first if peggy gets any more chances at innocent remarks about Lillian and Justin.

ColdTeaAgain · 12/12/2016 00:30

Easy to see what type of businessman Justin is, in case we weren't sure already! I think this land deal will lead to a test of Lillian's loyalties.

RockNRollNerd · 12/12/2016 09:46

Sorry Tuktuk and LowDudgeon, I always forget the bits towards the end of the previous thread Xmas Blush.

I do recall someone mentioning at the time it first came up but please can my fellow accountants join me in outrage at the blase attitude Justin and Brine seem to have towards a massive related party transaction. They still seem to be talking as if it's going to go through as a favourable price which I'm taking to mean below market value - the rest of the board should go nuts at that, and there's bound to be a load of tax implications as well aren't there (has vague recollection from Professional Stage that you have to pay tax as if it were at market value...?)

Big BOOP for Brine's coughing at Justin and Peggy discussing Lilians services Xmas Grin

R4 · 12/12/2016 09:55

can my fellow accountants join me in outrage

I was about to post something along those lines. But I am confused, as ever, about Damara / the Estate / BL. Who owns this bit of land? It's not totally Justin's say-so because there was something about the Board (which Board?) agreeing the sale. It can't be one BL Director selling company assets to another BL Director at favourable rates, surely?Shock Brine and/or his accountant ought to be more clued up than that.

DeepanKrispanEven · 12/12/2016 09:58

I was distinctly confused about Brine taking the accountant's OK as a big point in favour of the idea. Surely few accountants are able to advise sensibly on the merits of a big purchase like that, as opposed to the mechanics of raising the money for it - apart, maybe, from the tax implications? I wonder whether the second opinion he's getting will be against the idea?
