Sorry for the poor title - the end of the last thread has arrived sooner than I thought and I haven't had the benefit of hearing all of the last 2 nights....

I don't think it's that gay men can't be monogamous so much as that the Home Farm lot can't do it. Phoebe seems OK so far, and Debbie isn't really around, but Brian, Jenny and Kate are not exactly pinnacles of fidelity.

StVincent · 06/10/2016 17:41

And watch this space for Alice (though I hope not)

TheAntiBoop · 06/10/2016 18:28

My point is really around the reinforcing of the stereotype that gay men can't be monogamous.

As far as I remember Adam had a one night stand with a Pavel in 2015. He also had a snog with Charlie, but I thought it didn't go any further? There had been a lot of flirting between him & Charlie, but I thought that Adam turned him down.

Rob vastly exaggerated Adam's infedelities to Ian (describing Adam & Charlie as having had an affair) which led ultimately to Ian & Adam's break up. I'm sure Rob sees it as a success.

Yes Adam has treated Ian in a horrible way, but didn't Ian suspect him of playing around before they married? I thought he was suspicious of Pavel when he was around.

TheAntiBoop · 06/10/2016 19:05

Adam and Charlie had sex a couple of nights before charlie left.

If Ian asked in relationships he would be told to LTB just for the pavel incident!

EsmesBees · 06/10/2016 19:12

Oh my goodness! I listen to both shows too and never spotted it was the same actor. Such a different delivery.

Also, a mention of Abi and Haley! Glad to hear she's found someone new.

Putthetulipsthere · 06/10/2016 19:17

Yes but wasn't the Pavel incident before the wedding?

Also I thought Adam & Charlie just had a snog not sex a few nights before he left? At least I thought that's what Lowfield said.

SunnySomer · 06/10/2016 19:18

Sorry - I lurk here rather than post - but just need to say I have a totally ewww moment, mishearing Kate: I thought she said "you're cheese-blocked" and thought it was some yoofspeak I'd never come across and now can't get the hideous mental image of Roy's curds out of my mind. No one in my house will stay in the room when TA is on so I can't tell anyone in RL.....

Putthetulipsthere · 06/10/2016 19:18

BOOP for that episode - Especially the interview panel and chat in the Bull about Knob

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/10/2016 19:18

Well, I enjoyed that. Good to hear Jim at last, and some natural-sounding gossip about Rob. Any episode with Brian and Jazzer is off to a flying start. Also delighted that Roy and Kate didn't end up in a clinch.

SunnySomer · 06/10/2016 19:18

(Obvs she DID say "your chi's blocked")

Putthetulipsthere · 06/10/2016 19:19

SunnySomer - I thought the same thing 😬😬

crossparsley · 06/10/2016 19:20

"Ostracisation"? Jim is supposed to be educated and a bit of a pedant, FFS. Even my auto-correct suggested OSTRACISM. Jesus wept.

Sorry first Archers post though I lurk here a lot. Just cross at poor QA. Maybe Jazzer will look it up tomorrow and correct him.

EmilyDickinson · 06/10/2016 19:21

I loved the conversation between Roy and Kate. It's great that they've got to a position where they can support and encourage each other. It was also good to have a slice of ordinary life after all the drama. I have so many friends whose children are heading off to university at the moment and they're feeling that mixture of pride in their offspring's achievement and sorrow at the end of their childhood.

Mandolinoparadiso · 06/10/2016 19:27

I totally agree, crossparsley. Ostracism was central to Athenian democracy. It's unthinkable that Jim would have got the word wrong.

Mandolinoparadiso · 06/10/2016 19:28

Isn't Jim supposed to be a retired Classics professor?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/10/2016 19:32

Yes, but they've always been very vague about his research interests. One minute they're suggesting he's a historian, next minute an archaeologist, next minute a literary specialist. As far as I recall, they've been moderately consistent about keeping him as a Latinist rather than a Hellenist, but that's about as far as it goes.

Full disclosure: I have a Classics degree, my husband has a Classics degree and our daughter has a Classics degree. Our son is the family rebel and has a History degree. Grin

echt · 06/10/2016 19:40

Another one who heard "cheese blocked".

Unfortunately "ostracisation" is correct, though so so hideous.

TheAntiBoop · 06/10/2016 19:46

www.lowfield.co.uk/archers/daily.phtml?20160115

I recall hearing that and thinking they were definitely going to go all the way!

ibrowze · 06/10/2016 20:00

sunnysomer Grin

Putthetulipsthere · 06/10/2016 20:14

Antiboop - yes I thought it sounded as if they were all set for a night of passion when I listened. Then, I thought later that someone said Lowfield said it was just a snog - evidently not! Thanks for clearing that up. But I think Rob said it was an affair - (well exact words were 'sordid little affair I think? ) not a one off.
Anyway Rob seems to have done Ian a favour, as he's better off without Adam. But it's still annoying, as Rob will see it as a victory.

TheAntiBoop · 06/10/2016 20:26

It was most definitely an emotional affair

Whilst rob exaggerated I don't think we should be excusing Adam or expecting Ian to forgive!!

DadDadDad · 06/10/2016 21:14

SunnySomer and crossparsley - always good to welcome some delurkers. Keep commenting - your contributions were funny and erudite (I'll leave it to others to say which was funny and which was erudite Grin ).

EddieStobbart · 06/10/2016 21:41

Apologies if this has already been discussed but why does Tom appear to think that organic baby food is an amazing new and innovative product?

impostersyndrome · 06/10/2016 22:10

I also thought the interview scene was great, though I find it hard to believe that it is something Johnny would have thought up. He seems to have leapt from callow youth to mature young man in no time at all (even taking account of all he's been through at the farm). Still, at least his poor deserted mum had had a fleeting mention, which makes his story a tad more believable.
