As doors slam shut in Rob's face and behind SOC, a new door opens for the next Archers editor. Are we expecting some New Tricks, or just Archenders?

Welcome one and all. No spoilers please!

I am disappointed in Alan. How can he forgive Rob Northern if he doesn't accept Rob has actually done anything wrong? It's not clear that he had taken on any of Helen's testimony.

And why wasn't anyone using the word 'rape' in this conversation? It can't have escaped even the Borchester Echo.

TopazRocks · 20/09/2016 19:46

Indeed, a good episode. Was it Adam who left then? Is there space at HF these days? This would be a good excuse for Adam to go away, for a while at least, as I agree working for Damara and Knob will be unbearable for him. But, yes, Ian is playing into Knob's homophobic hands. Oh well. I lked the discussion between Usha and Alan, even though I am Team Usha. Smile

I agree with DDD's version of what Pat should have said to Helen re-return to driving. Can i just say I've never shared the dislike for Helen. I find her character interesting, obviously helps that a very good actor plays her. But I see her as a person who has has some really hard knocks in life. Even her drink-driving incident and injury to Mike came not long after her partner had shot himself. She and Tom should have handled the incident differently, but some people do make wrong, sometimes illegal, moves and dig themselves ever deeper into a hole. Most people are flawed on some level. I know I am and have made some stupid mistakes as a result.

SaffyRosie · 20/09/2016 19:47

Does anybody think that if Rob loses his home and job it might unhinge him ? He may then kill himself and Jack in order to spite Helen. Thus scenario is not unknown in real life.

Yes I know that he is supposed to be supervised when he has Jack but he is very resourceful and I'm sure could manage to get Jack on his own in order to do the dastardly deed.

spiker · 20/09/2016 19:49

I think he might get nasty with Kirsty.

TopazRocks · 20/09/2016 19:53

I'd like to think Will will refuse to rent his house to Knob, perhaps after discussion with who surely has a view on Rob and men who abuse generally. We need to hear Nick. It would be even better if everyone who has a spare house in the area refuses to rent to him. Though that would be unlikely I expect. But it is good hearing the rattled Rob.

Vango · 20/09/2016 20:19

There's only one person that Rob considers a friend. The only one prepared to lie for him for the greater good. His only support during the trial. Step forward Shula, with Dan's empty room 😁. I'd love to hear him ask her!

TopazRocks · 20/09/2016 20:32

That would spell the end of Shula and A's marriage, surprise surprise. I seem to recall he wasn't too happy when HWMNBN was given lodgings at the Stables. I also think Rob made trouble for Will at some point afte r he arrived in the area, but I can't think what it was. Obvs to do with the shoot and Will's job. Evil meddling or summat?

Scorbus · 20/09/2016 20:32

Loved the theological tennis tonight between Usha and Alan!

TopazRocks · 20/09/2016 20:33

Maybe Justin will sublet a room at the Dower house to Knob? that would upset Fagash no end. Esp if she doesn't hear about it till after.

TheAntiBoop · 20/09/2016 20:44

Wouldn't it be good if will did become robs landlord though. Rob trying to be all clever with will and suggesting he will get him fired and kicked out of his house and will pointing out he has a perfectly nice house to move into - but where will rob go?

JasperDamerel · 20/09/2016 20:49

Adam will only need to stay in Home Farm for long enough for Usha to evict Rob, and then he can move into BHC.

And then, hopefully, reconcile with Ian. OR, Ian can find someone nice who moves in with him and becomes a stalwart of village life because Ian is far too good a character to leave, and then Charlie can come back, expose more of Rob's evil ways, sweep Adam off his feet and then settle down in the village to be a bit annoying. If Oan gets a new bloke, he should be quite different to Adam. Henry's social worker, perhaps, or a teacher.

EasyToEatTiger · 20/09/2016 21:14

Where does the toothy grin/Grr thing come from? Are there more special smileys for these threads?Confused

TopazRocks · 20/09/2016 21:17

Jasper, these are excellent ideas, IMO. I hope Huw is 'listening'.

glowfrog · 20/09/2016 21:20

Good on Usha!! As for Alan - WTAF - how can you preach forgiveness when Rob has shown NO repentance for what he's done? Good grief, now even the vicars aren't doing their job properly on TA...

Adam is doing my head in - but I think it's more down to the actor, whose voice really grates on me. He sounds like a dead-eyed Kenton.

Vango · 20/09/2016 21:35

Tiger, sorry, they're on my phone, and I am too lazy to type out the mn emoticons. During DDD's campaign for a special Archers one I regularly had to resist the urge to suggest 🔪.

Alleycat1 · 20/09/2016 21:43

I love Adam's voice Glowfrog, he always sounds really warm, but his integrity in relationships is sadly lacking. I hope Ian finds somebody who appreciates him and Adam can hook up with fellow trotter, Charlie.

Imbroglio · 20/09/2016 21:43

My dream scenario - Usha evicts rob, who moves to no 1 the green at an astronicanomical rent, Adam moves to blossom hell cottage, Helen moves herself and the boys into honeysuckle cottage with Ian. Rob combusts in apoplexy.

Alleycat1 · 20/09/2016 21:45

Fellow rotter - blasted predictive text!

EasyToEatTiger · 20/09/2016 21:57

Thanks Vango! Not much of a CSI am I! Rob's really had the Pointing Stick pointing at him. It is the stick that makes people wander off, wither off and die. I don't think that's going to happen. I wonder that he won't see himself until something Really Bad happens to him. I expect it will be Henwee in 20 years time who outs him.

EsmesBees · 20/09/2016 21:58

I love Adam's voice too! And Ian's. Really hope this is not the end for these two. I enjoyed how Ian called Adam out on his quick flit from counselling to moving out.

spiker · 20/09/2016 22:20

i want Shula to hurry up her impending split with Alastair - surely a showdown is coming soon? Then she can make it plain to the Titchener clan than she is not Team Knob and attone for her sins by starting a charity to help abused women. Alan and Usha could help by turning BHC into a women's refuge, seeing as it can magically accommodate all who need shelter.

TopazRocks · 20/09/2016 22:24

Over dinner was thinking about ClarrieLove, and wondering about her pension. She is presumably in the age group that has only recently had her state pension age changed from 60 to 66 or 67. So many in TA seem to keep working till they drop dead- but CL's work must be quite heavy, on her feet a lot. It's time they had someone retiring. They had all the hoo ha about Mike and Vicki, her stopping work to care for Bethany and M feeling he had to keep on earning. I wonder what he's doing now - there can't be loads of jobs in Brum for elderly ex-farm workers. I assume CL likes working to get away from the FIL and his ruddy ferrets. While we're at the descriptions, I hear CL as a woman with short legs and a round bum, rather like me except I've got long legs! And I don't have an annoying voice, or a ferret-loving FIL!

Cromwell1536 · 20/09/2016 22:25

Loath Adam's voice. What a twat! Looking forward to the scene where JennyDarling tries to wheedle Ian around and he tells her he is not willing to compromise his dignity as she has in her marriage, thank you very much. Utterly repelled by Alan's stupid and wrong-headed arguments and loving Usha for sticking up for the right thing. Hopefully this will start a cascade of right-thinking folk cold-shouldering Knob - which will lead to Justin (what a tosser!) rethinking. Ugh. If Knob does try and waylay Helen on the school run, perhaps this will prompt her to make a complaint to the police? Can only hope she has learned from hard-won experience!

JessieMcJessie · 20/09/2016 22:36

I was a bit thrown by hearing Alan tonight as I initially thought it was Doc Locke. They have similar demeanour (calm, wise types) as well as voices. Need to hear both in same scene to see if there is any difference at all between their voices.

As I was listening I suddenly remembered something- in Ambridge Extra years ago there was a whole series about Amy finding out about something dark in her mother's (Alan's late wife's) past. And if I recall correctly the dark secret was that the First Mrs Alan had stabbed someone when she was a teenager, I think someone who had bullied her. Does anyone else remember this? I think she had been convicted of wounding and sent to a young offenders' institution, done her time and met Alan afterwards.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/09/2016 22:39

Go Usha. Alan is a prat.
