Will this thread see the end of The Trial? And SOC?

At least Ursula will be pleased to see he's wearing a tie.

JudyCoolibar · 04/09/2016 09:09

They've missed out the artificial tears rolling down his face whilst he clutches his stomach and winces bravely. I'm sure he would have been practising all of that diligently.

redshoeblueshoe · 04/09/2016 09:43

Grauch in that link it seems they don't actually know who is on trial.
It says you can get 5 years for coercive control, but its not Rob on trail.

although in Soc's world I guess that doesn't matter

selsigfach · 04/09/2016 09:49

I may have misheard what with the wailing toddler but I think Paddy just said that SOC is coming up on BH this morning. There's also a Pavel (sadly not that one).

RockNRollNerd · 04/09/2016 10:37

But even so, why isn't Justin doing just a little more due diligence and background checking into what went on before? He surely can't have got to this age and been running companies like Damara if he's always just taken the word of anyone who sounds charming and plausible without doing any reference-checking or whatever, because in that case, he wouldn't have made millions, he'd have lost them.

In my experience people like Justin tend to hire and fire pretty much on a whim. It's one of the big issues with largeish private companies that have a single dominant individual running the show. They will bring in someone if they think they're right, often sticking them in a role that isn't necessarily their core area of experience - they tend to be banking on them being such a talented individual that they can make anything work and they set great store by bringing in people who 'can bring fresh perspective' (aka they don't actually know how to do the job but they think they're smart enough to turn their hand to it).

The positive flip side is that the same bloody mindedness tends to mean they're equally as quick and brutal in firing them if there is a cock up/they're not performing.

Re the reference cheking, you'd be surprised, in private companies there can be a level at which it's assumed that the person couldn't have got to where they are without being ok so why would you do detailed checking (see previous point about effectively hiring on the boss's gut feel). This is how you end up with the occasional corporate horror story and people who are discovered to have never been to France, never mind done the MBA at Insead they claim to have - each company assumes the one before checked it out and doesn't bother asking for certificates. Again, though, a small consolation is those people are cheap to fire if they do get found out as they tend to be reluctant to go to tribunal knowing they've been rumbled!

Mootsie · 04/09/2016 11:12

I see from the court artist's picture that Rob's got that bloody stick with him!!

Olympiathequeen · 04/09/2016 11:20

I'll be interested in seeing what Henry says after being brainwashed by rob for so long?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 04/09/2016 12:10

If ONLY the rape would get mentioned, I think Rob would completely give himself away - he'd do that laugh and say something clearly implying he doesn't think there's any such thing as rape between a man and his wife, and it would be NUFF SED!

selsigfach · 04/09/2016 12:36

Ooh yes, seek, that would be good!
Apologies, must have got the Broadcasting House thing wrong. Did anyone else catch what he said? Could SOC be on next week?

Gruach · 04/09/2016 12:57

Here's something on the trial from the New Statesman. But again not very convincing on exactly how this story is supposed to help victims of coercive control.

enochroot · 04/09/2016 13:37

What is the likely sentence if Helen is found guilty?
I'm guessing that it might be a guilty verdict because she did stab him but is it possible that the mitigating circumstances and the time already served will be taken into account and she's released?
Then there would be a custody battle of course but, with any luck, the stuff that comes out in court about coercion will be enough for Helen to gain custody of the children.

enochroot · 04/09/2016 13:49

Just read The New Statesman article and answered my own question.
I'm still hopeful that she'll get off though. To be imprisoned would send out entirely the wrong message to abused women.

JudyCoolibar · 04/09/2016 13:52

I hope Helen's going to do her hair in the way Rob most disapproves and wear a power-dressing twopiece.

Minimammoth · 04/09/2016 13:55

The rape will come out, but for maximum theatrical effect. It will be milked for all its worth, mark my words. < shuffles back into cave, cackling>

JudyCoolibar · 04/09/2016 13:58

No idea about criminal procedure here, but don't the defence have to put in some sort of statement of what their case is going to be? If the rape suddenly comes out at the trial, isn't the prosecution going to have a lovely time asking how come it wasn't in the case statement and strongly suggesting Helen has just made it up?

The ideal way to counter that would be to call Jess and bring in the Women's Aid records. Here's hoping ...

TopazRocks · 04/09/2016 15:05

Isn't it more likely, if found guilty, it'll be for 'wounding' which will be a shorter sentence than attempted murder. I think she' s been charged with both??

I find myself wondering if it'll be Arsula that will blurt out that 'isn't that normal in marriage?' when they mention the coercive sexual contact. After all She'll have had this for decades herself from Bruce.

I'd like to think Knob will be overheard within the court building trying to intimidate a defence witness, preferably overheard by the Judge who will take a very dim view. Shame that his intimidation of Ian was heard only by us, but i am sure Ian would be happy to report it. Even without witnesses isn't it a criminal offence? Just hard to prove as he's so creepy. Knob that is. Ian does not creep.

TopazRocks · 04/09/2016 15:13

Just read the NS article. That answers some of my questions, one being 'wounding with intent' is still quite a long custodial sentence. Sad Oh well, not long now ....

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/09/2016 15:25

OK, bets on the outcome! This is what I want to happen. I don't care whether it's realistic legally, I just want this SL to come to an end.

  1. Not guilty of attempted murder.
  2. Either not guilty of malicious wounding, or guilty but with a short sentence, most of which would have been served on remand and the rest suspended.
  3. Such a bad picture of Rob coming out of the trial that at the hearing the week after next to decide where the boys should live it's finally decided that Henry should go back to Bridge Farm.

Then I want Rob's job offer rescinded and him to decide to leave Ambridge. Ideally he will then fall into a slurry pit back on the Titchener farm and that will be the end of him.

The Flower & Produce show is imminent and it can't come quickly enough for me this year. I've had enough melodrama to last me for several years of TA.

TopazRocks · 04/09/2016 15:35

Maybe Miles will get a bit pushy near the slurry pit? There HAS to be some point in Miles.

Flower and Produce Show. Knob will be found cheating and get run out of town?!

TopazRocks · 04/09/2016 15:37

Re-Helen's clothes for the trial, I am surprised Pat hasn't been sleepless over that. Her shape will have changed since she was arrested, so she needs new clothes.

Minimammoth · 04/09/2016 16:02

Na, she'll be wearing a pair of orange dungarees.

enochroot · 04/09/2016 17:01

I want the same as Gaspode.
Tarred and feathered then run out of town on a rail.

StiginaGrump · 04/09/2016 17:01
