I've just browsed Lowfield for the first time - they really don't like Pat do they!

OP posts:

stupid stupid stupid stupid name for the baby. Johnny should conveniently lose his cousin in the pigpen ASAP.

I went to a talk about PTSD today & now I completely understand Hell. Except that the PTSD should have kicked in about 9 months after the stabbing. But still, all her inability to function, completely fits.

BertrandRussell · 27/05/2016 19:39

He can't beat her to it. The baby has to be registered in the area it is born in..

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/05/2016 19:40

Well, the government website says the registrar in your own area takes all the details and sends them through. The birth certificate is issued by the office in the area where the birth takes place and sent by post. www.gov.uk/register-birth/overview I was thinking about this (overinfested? Moi? You bet) and I assume that the out of area registrar notifies the issuing registrar right away to let them know the information is coming through, so that they don't let anybody else register the birth.

I do hope I'm wrong, though, and that Rob has left it too late. Bank Holiday on Monday, so the registrar won't visit the MBU until at least Tuesday - unless somebody popped round late this afternoon...

GypsyFl0ss · 27/05/2016 19:45

I think it will hinge on what documentation Rob would need to prove the birth. I'm not convinced it's the red book as some of our local parents don't come home with one if there's a shortage . But they all come home with a print out of the birth notification. And Knob won't have that.

R4 · 27/05/2016 19:45

I'm confused. Peggy was trying to get Helen to hold the baby but Helen resisted strongly. Peggy twigs the problem and tells Tone, out of earshot. Next scene, Helen suddenly accepts the baby and even dresses it up nicely in an outfit that Pat sent.
Did I miss something. Was it telepathy on Peggy's part? How did she suddenly get Helen to care.
Can she take over the running of The Defence please.

lljkk · 27/05/2016 19:48

Rob hasn't had a little baby before, so I reckon he won't be so aware of procedure or timing & won't dream that Helen could do it without his authority (his meglamania). We already figured out that someone will come to Helen fairly quickly to do the paperwork (& get social services involved).

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/05/2016 19:52

He was very quick to work out that he could get parental responsibility. However, we can only hope that he is a bit slow off the mark this time.

Re the turning point for Helen - it's just about plausible that shouting at Peggy was a lightbulb moment for her. Peggy is no pushover but was visibly upset. It may have got Helen thinking about the last couple of years and what has been happening. Sad

GypsyFl0ss · 27/05/2016 19:57

In other news I'm pleased that Tom and Jazzer have made up and it was very rewarding to hear Tom telling Pat that she was being over indulgent.

shinynewusername · 27/05/2016 20:21

Mystic Bore predicted Jack As did several others grin

To be fair, there is at least a 50% chance of any boy born in the last decade being named Jack Wink

Much better episode despite the rather hammy Tom-Jazzer encounter.

DoctorTwo · 27/05/2016 20:25

I forgot about Brian and his penchant for redheads. (No hair, just a red head). I think it's the only thing he and I have in common. Grin

BeauGlacons · 27/05/2016 20:25

Missed it again

Gumpendorf · 27/05/2016 20:29

Registrar on Twitter has commented they 'link to child health records electronically, no form'.

So if Rob has registered the birth, the registrar will be able to tell the MBU.

EBearhug · 27/05/2016 20:35

But does Rob know which MBU she's in, and therefore which registration area it's likely to be?

BertrandRussell · 27/05/2016 20:38

The baby can only be registered in the area where he was born.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/05/2016 20:40

Yes, in the sense that the certificate can only be issued by that registry office, but as my UK government link posted above explains another registrar can take the details and pass them on. I seem to recall on the last thread there was talk of people who lived in one area and gave birth in another one and didn't have to go back to the first area to register the birth.

cheminotte · 27/05/2016 20:41

Really enjoyed tonight's episode. Great acting by June Spencer.

AugustaFinkNottle · 27/05/2016 20:42

I would have thought that if Rob asks the prison authorities where his child is he's entitled to be told. In fact I'm amazed he didn't hotfoot it up there as soon as he was born. Had it been anyone else, the Ambridge health fairy would certainly have ensured he was well enough.

GypsyFl0ss · 27/05/2016 20:46

I've just spoken to a friend who registered her baby six weeks ago...didn't tell her why I needed to know!
She says they took the birth notification print out given to them by hospital and passports for ID. I'm assuming the registrar then has the same info on their computer directly from child health to cross reference.
If you register in the area of birth you get the birth cert at the time. If you register out of area then the cert is posted to you.
So hopefully Jack Archer is good to go.

Gumpendorf · 27/05/2016 20:47

Gasp is right. The gov.uk guidance says you should register the birth in the area in which the baby was born, but if you can't, the registrar will send details to the birth area. The birth area issues the birth certificate.

The question is whether Rob is well enough to go to the local registrar or understands he needs to.

Gumpendorf · 27/05/2016 20:48

Crossed, Gypsy. Smile

FabFiveFreddie · 27/05/2016 20:51

Helen sounded a lot less weak, and a lot more in control of her emotions and mind today. Please, PLEASE may this auger the start of something new!

DadDadDad · 27/05/2016 20:52

We discussed birth registration at length on the previous thread. As he is married to the mother it seems that Rob could register the birth and you definitely can go to your local registrar and they will forward details. But he would need to know where the baby was born - does he?

And I'll repeat the point that you must know by now whatever the requirements are in real life the SW will write whatever suits the drama.

Gumpendorf · 27/05/2016 20:56

Ok, Dad but we now have context which makes it more real. Both Helen and Rob have chosen names and we know Helen, at least, is intending to register the birth. Smile

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/05/2016 20:56

DDD, excellent point there. They could have the chief Registrar for the UK advising them (if there is such a person) and they'd still write what they wanted.

Gumpendorf · 27/05/2016 21:00

Well so far they have followed the rules, by telling us a registrar will visit the MBU. There is huge dramatic potential with the rules as they stand, I'm not sure why SOC would want to change them. but he probably will
