Augusta and Blenheim thank you for all your useful and knowledgable posts re criminal law. I'm disappointed though that being charged with attempted murder and not being found guilty will let Helen off the hook entirely - I'd like to see a solution that is legally correct yet with minimal negative consequences for her and her family.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 07/04/2016 21:45

For every Helen there are 1000s and 1000s of Jess's who just drive off one morning leaving their bastard ex behind and going on to feel much better for it.

I want this on a t-shirt

Marchate · 07/04/2016 21:46

Bampot = a potty. You are basically saying the person is full of poo

TopazRocks · 07/04/2016 21:47

Bampot mean, sort of, 'daft/silly person'. It's used in Scotland, i thought mostly a west coast/Glasgow word. it's quite gentle and can be used affectionately. Unlike words like psycho, for example, which I dislike as it has other connotations in the psychiatric world which can mean its use is rather dismissive and derogatory. In fact I HATE words like that used casually. In some ways bampot is useful as it has no other connotations, though of course many people don't know it! the expression 'You are something of a bampot' can be abbreviate to 'ye bam' .....Grin In fact has Jazzer not used it?????

Marchate · 07/04/2016 21:47

Oh well, maybe I am misinformed, Jasper

SliceOfLime · 07/04/2016 21:48

Thanks Blenheim

I read that about 12 months too, at least we know that must mean he's not going to die - it would all be over and done with before then if he died presumably?

But that means it does have an ending... I'm going to be an optimist and say he goes down for coercive behaviour actually no idea what the new law requires for a conviction or whether you can be imprisoned for it but then it wouldn't really be over would it, he'd be out sooner or later...

SliceOfLime · 07/04/2016 21:49

Annie that would make a great assignment for students if there are any criminal law lecturers on here Smile

DadDadDad · 07/04/2016 21:58

Did anyone find the less-than-subtle build up to tonight's "punchline" a bit clunky?

"What's the charge? Is it wounding?"
"NOOO"
"Is it GBH?"
"NOOOOO"
"Then what it is?"
"The offence of extremely cliched scriptwriting!"

BYOSnowman · 07/04/2016 22:00

Yes! We have a year of clunky cliche

Will they even bother with any other sl?

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 07/04/2016 22:03

BYOS Small I know what you mean. But after ranting at DH again yesterday I realised something.

SOC has got what he wanted - he can fuck off finish on a ratings high.

Making way for a new ed who has a love of and knowledge of TA who will restore all back to normal. I have been listening since childhood, I'm not letting 'SOC TA killer' take it away from me.

Damn you SOC

AugustaFinkNottle · 07/04/2016 22:04

I'm disappointed though that being charged with attempted murder and not being found guilty will let Helen off the hook entirely

Annie, that's not my understanding. It appears that she wouldn't necessarily be let off the hook because it's open to the jury to make a finding of GBH, and it is also open to the prosecution to put that forward as an additional or alternative charge.

BlenheimBouquet · 07/04/2016 22:04

I hope you're right lorek!

AugustaFinkNottle · 07/04/2016 22:05

We haven't heard who the new editor will be, have we? They're taking their time given that SOC must be going quite soon.

TopazRocks · 07/04/2016 22:09

Okay, no connotations except beer and possibly poo.

I presume if he died they would have to try for murder. and she'd still plead not guilty. Without Knob being there to confuse everyone with lots of lies, it could be a better outcome for Helen, i imagine. I'd hope so anyway. With a good defence and a compassionate jury. Part of me no longer cares. Would she at least get a suspended sentence and she'd have a criminal record for ever. Not maybe such a deal fora cheese queen in a family business.

I know, I think I'll have to not come on here for a few days so I can catch up on life. The legal stuff is fascinating, I find. I'd love to have done law but was too scared of the public performance stuff.

R4 · 07/04/2016 22:10

I found the interview a bit bizarre. Lots of questions and "no comments" (prize to Louiza - how many ways can you find to say "no comment") until they finally aggravated Helen into responding to the "did you mean to kill him?" question. And the moment she opened up ... they terminated the interview.Confused

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 07/04/2016 22:14

Of course Henry would be supported to have contact with Helen. She's his mother - how would it be in his interest to keep him away? She's not abusive towards Henry; leaving aside the fact that he witnessed her stab rob which was a traumatic event, she is not an abusive parent and she's Henry's primary attachment figure. He needs to be supported to continue that relationship

TopazRocks · 07/04/2016 22:15

Yes, it was extremely clunky. it was lie a opening a parcel! IRL wouldn't she just have blurted it out? in a shocked a voice of course. or been pale and silent.

TopazRocks · 07/04/2016 22:17

like not lie a. I blame this dratted keyboard. Probably got beer or poo in it, put there by some bampot.

TopazRocks · 07/04/2016 22:19

Would 12 months maybe include Knob's trial too?

SliceOfLime · 07/04/2016 22:22

I hope so Topaz !

TopazRocks · 07/04/2016 22:25

the moral of the tale: Don't argue with your partner in the kitchen.

I know someone who reckons he was within seconds of doing a Hellen to an abusive (now ex)partner. He, the abuse victim, was cooking at the time and had had enough of her taunts. It's very very scary.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 07/04/2016 22:36

If Peggoi does decide to send a card Hallmark do a lovely one. Inside it says:

Sorry to hear you've not been well
Some might say it's been pure Hell in
And now you're lying in a hospital bed
But it could be worse
You could be dead

glowfrog · 07/04/2016 23:15

D3 that made me spit out my toothpaste! Thanks for that. Grin

selsigfach · 07/04/2016 23:15

I think Peggy would send:

Sorry to hear about the stoma,
And that you are in a coma,
After having been slashed -
Would you like some cash?

xmasadsboohiss · 07/04/2016 23:47

Rob my dear
So sorry to hear
That the trouble and strife
Got you with a knife
