That's meant to be paying Eddie!

ArgyMargy · 20/03/2016 09:20

For some reason I've got £3k in my head.

Gruach · 20/03/2016 09:28

I seem to remember it was about a tenth of what a "proper" one would cost. Grin

Imbroglio · 20/03/2016 09:28

Rob was probably sick of Ursula as well. Plenty of hints that he found her an unloving mother, eg when looking at the boarding school.

Hadron21 · 20/03/2016 09:36

Hi - I'm a bit of a lurker!

I was thinking about Tom, surely by now he'd be actively dating again? I think if Kirsty saves Helen he will consider that he made a mistake. But given a man of his age wouldn't he be at least on line dating?

Thanks for the new thread. I read before listening so I can brace myself these days.

glowfrog · 20/03/2016 09:49

Losing the baby would be even darker. :-(

And yet I can see how hard it might be caring for an unwanted baby.

Has anyone seen the recent BBC summary of the SL? It gave a strange description of the rape - that Helen and Rob were getting it on and she wanted to move it to the bedroom but Rob didn't want to wait.

I actually missed that part of the story so am a bit confused because frankly that doesn't sound like rape to me yet it obviously was from what everyone is saying??

ElementaryMyDear · 20/03/2016 09:54

If Eddie's trying to find a cheap wood burner for the hut, this can only have one ending.

ElementaryMyDear · 20/03/2016 09:55

Helen was crying at the beginning of the following episode, why on earth would she do that just because Rob was a little bit over-eager?

BYOSnowman · 20/03/2016 09:57

Glow frog - I think he forced her quite roughly to have sex where he wanted and how he wanted. So whilst she may have consented to sex in the bedroom- she didn't consent to it when he forced her in the kitchen

Tom is more interested in his sausages than women!!

Imbroglio · 20/03/2016 10:06

The rape was horrible because Helen wanted it to start with but rob became coercive and tore her dress. Then the next day told Helen that she had got tipsy and that they got carried away. She had bruising.

DSClarke · 20/03/2016 10:11

My Ocado order this morning (JennyDarling would expect no less), contained the sausage equivalent of the Fairbrethren's eggs.

Look! One's even a rugby player.

I'm not at all pleased with the summary on the BBC blog. If I were a new listener and took that as my guide I might be wondering why it's all excited so much outrage. They've missed all the salient or more subtle points - blandified it in fact.

And I'm wondering if this is intended as an introduction to a rather whitewashed audio product which we know will be on sale in the autumn.

glowfrog · 20/03/2016 10:22

Thanks for the clarification, everyone.

My thoughts exactly, Gruach.

Putthetulipsthere · 20/03/2016 10:54

grouch YY that is very misleading of BBC blog. I hope they take note & change it!

Just listening to film, mainly to catch up on shepherds hut story. Thanks for feedback on price, Argy Margy & Grouch.

Inadvertently heard Knob telling Hellin his version of sleepwalking & Henwee. 😩😬. Now feel porridge on it's own is too gentle a punishment for knob. Quite like the idea of the various Ambridge residents ( particularly Eddie, Ian & Jim) torturing him with pitchforks before Harrison sends him off to jail

ppeatfruit · 20/03/2016 10:58

Putthetulips I love the image of Lynda 'painting' Eddie, she could could paint him in shepherds clothes and stand him outside the hut with a bit of grass in his mouth.

With fake lambs all around!! Oh and her in her Marie Antoinette oufit!!! For the 'resurgam' opening!!!

Thanks for the new thread btw psuedo Grin

MeolsCop · 20/03/2016 11:06

Listening to the ep with the rape, it occurred to me with horror that this may well have been going on for a long time - we're saying he's raped her 'again', but how do we know this is the 'only' the second time? We just happen to have heard this particular incident. And there was a weariness in Helen's protests that made me wonder if she's all too used to it by now Sad

He is vile. I want him to die but I want him to get a fitting comeuppance too.

elephantoverthehill · 20/03/2016 11:08

I wonder if Stefan will return and be found squatting in the shepherd's hut. He would be discovered when the pasting table collapses and Scruff makes an almighty fuss.

JapanNextYear · 20/03/2016 11:10

Kirsty is coping well with a tricky situation, I suppose with everyone else they've got used to Helen and rob's relationship over a long time, she came back into it cold so could see it for what it is...

KittiesInsane · 20/03/2016 11:26

Glowfrog, I think it was fairly clear that Helen didn't want a baby yet. I suspect her 'should we go upstairs?' meant 'and get the condoms out?'

Somehow after Rob's 'carried away' episode, she was pregnant. Funny that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/03/2016 11:50

This is the blog summary. I agree it misses a lot of nuances.

Going back to the first rape, yes, we (obviously) didn't hear the whole thing, and it was a scene where there was obviously something going on which needed either a commentary or a visual element to make sense of it, so nobody can say with certainty what was supposed to have happened. As far as I can recall, though, Rob plied Helen with drink. It was clear they were both feeling amorous. However, when she said 'Shouldn't we go upstairs?' he ignored her. There were signs that he was ripping her dress and then she said in a questioning and slightly fearful tone 'Rob?'

Now, the only way I can make sense of her extreme distress over the next few days (far more than just 'being a bit flat' as the blog post says) is to suppose that she was desperately upset that he ignored what she wanted over something so intimate, something that was supposed to be a sign of how much he loved her and also that he railroaded her into taking the chance of getting pregnant - it was so clear from what happened that he has no respect for her at all and he is utterly selfish. Helen has blinded herself to this for the most part and she has been brainwashed into believing that everything is her fault and/or she is imagining things, but she knew something was badly wrong about that night's events.

Also, there are clear indications that he was so rough that he hurt her and (given that she was pregnant so soon afterwards) there was no contraception in place. We know that's not what she wanted at that stage. And then of course the gaslighting started - he made an off the cuff remark about 'getting a bit carried away last night' with his trademark mirthless chuckle. He makes my skin crawl.

And yes, MeolsCop, I said on the last thread that what happened this week is probably not the second time. I can't imagine he ever takes no for answer. Why would he? What he wants is the only important thing. Helen is too silly and mentally fragile for her wishes and feelings to merit any attention at all. Sad

glowfrog · 20/03/2016 11:50

Kittie that would make sense, actually.

God, how grim.

Abraid2 · 20/03/2016 12:29

DSClarke that is spooky!

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 20/03/2016 12:32

It came up on the EA thread a while ago that some of the nsdps perpetrated acts of 'deniable violence'. Accidentally pushing or hurting you whilst supposedly playing or accidentally hitting you with something whilst throwing it to you.

I would class what he did the first time as deniable rape. (Although legally there is no haziness if her consent was dependent on contraception).

The last time was not deniable.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 20/03/2016 12:34

DSClarke I wonder if that is where the idea for sl cane from. SOC gets an Ocado delivery and think right emough thete are lots of people moving into rare breed /premium hobby farming.

This. Also, Tom noticed bruising a few days after.
