Come on Kirsty!

I can remember once literally cheering Peggy when she was talking to Kate - it was probably to do with custody of Phoebe, I'm not sure, but Peggy had her character nailed & told her straight.

Much as I loathe the old bag it would be great to hear her do the same to Rob (preferably in front of the entire family)

BitOutOfPractice · 09/02/2016 13:48

I clicked on that Guardian link and it was wall-to-wall pictures Sad

JessieMcJessie · 09/02/2016 13:58

Oh come on BOOP, when was the last time you saw a Guardian feature online without a picture?

BitOutOfPractice · 09/02/2016 13:59

Never. I'm a fool to myself Jessie Sad

AdventuresOfADentist · 09/02/2016 14:03

Gruach I think the standard issue magazine was set up by Sarah Millican. Fun fact for you there.

Gruach · 09/02/2016 14:12

Oh? I did notice the article writer was a stand up comedian.

Is it something I should be adding to the billion other things I ought to keep up with?

Gherkinsmummy · 09/02/2016 14:12

Another compare and contrast - Ruth noticing Pip being a bit fed up, and talking to her directly, vs no one discussing things with Helen at all.

Gherkinsmummy · 09/02/2016 14:16

But my poor Helen taking on too much! You know, with her oldest child at school and a part time job.

doesthatmakesense · 09/02/2016 14:16

Dear gods I just heard the repeat... Now feeling very stabby.

DadDadDad · 09/02/2016 14:28

Ooh, that French article mentioned above says the average age of TA listeners is 59 with 8% below 35. We're obviously an unusually young crowd here according to our survey (average 46, 14% below 35): www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/2233904-How-old-are-Archers-listeners

NotdeadyetBOING · 09/02/2016 14:35

Quite ,Gherkins .Just beggars belief. Pat would NEVER utter those words. I long to know if the actress tries to make that point.

Love the stats, Dad. I am working hard to drag that average age down. DS (11) now subscribes to the podcasts

squeaver · 09/02/2016 15:07

Rob would be an excellent spin doctor. The way he's embedded the "she's doing too much" line so that it's become gospel is quite something.

I know they love their compare and contrasts and it can be a bit too much but it would be great to have another pregnant character who's just getting on with her life.

BigBad1SaidNo · 09/02/2016 15:13

I guess Throb picked his victim wisely in that sense - people are more likely to attribute the change in Hellin to a return of past mental health issues than to what Throb is doing to her.
It's not right but it happens.

BYOSnowman · 09/02/2016 15:28

Although he didn't know that about her when he set his sights on her

He did know she was a single mum desperate for a relationship

trevortrevorslatterfry · 09/02/2016 16:06

Gruach Standard Issue is a website-magazine founded by the lovely Sarah Millican as an antidote to the cack that usual women's magazines contain Smile

trevortrevorslatterfry · 09/02/2016 16:11

Oops XP with dentist Blush

I do recommend Standard Issue. I follow them on the dreaded Facebook and click on the articles that take my fancy.

I listened for the first time in ages last night and totally agree with all the PP comments about Patbot - ridiculous!
And Peggy is a poisonous old baggage, isn't she?

BigBad1SaidNo · 09/02/2016 16:22

PolPat of old would have been a bit wilier though.

(Oh and hello - sorry I just wandered in. Started watching TA at around the time of the Brian/Siobhan storyline and have watched on and off since)

GruntledOne · 09/02/2016 16:38

I so agree about Peggy bitching about Christine - especially the way it's all designed to make her appear superior and saintly.

However, it would be fun if Knob goes to her with the begging bowl and gets asked some searching questions about why he can't go out and get a job, with her pointing out that if Helen really needs looking after then Pat would be very willing to do it.

BYOSnowman · 09/02/2016 16:42

I don't get all the hate for Peggy - I think rob being taken down a peg or two by someone who is both old and female would be great

Agree that the bitching about Christine isn't nice although I feel the sw think this is a comedy sl (like the not hilarious kitchen)

AdventuresOfADentist · 09/02/2016 16:46

No worries trevor. I haven't actually read it Gruach, I just read that she'd set it up. I might check it out though.

Adding to the chorus of wtf are Pat and co thinking with when pat and Peggy were talking yesterday and Peggy was all "helen not eating is harming the baby - what was she thinking?!" - ermm she's obviously not able to think properly and is therefore troubled - maybe find out why?! Arghh!

spiker · 09/02/2016 17:02

Dentist - yes exactly! You'd wonder WHY wouldn't you? Then you'd gently ask your DD/DGD what had led up to it. I know v little about ED but doesn't anorexia have a lot to do with trying to control a part of life, perhaps the only part you do have control of? (ED experts - do please correct me if I am being ignorant here).

I think the anti-Peggy-ness has a lot to do with her total lack of humour personally.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 09/02/2016 17:38

YY I think Peggy is brilliant from the POV of being a strong woman etc etc but I don't see why she has to make such mean comments about people - being nasty about her GD to her DIL - not very nice.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 09/02/2016 17:41

Peggy is foul! She's a terrible snob, she was awful to Tony, and she's a real bitch about Chris, who is supposed to be her friend! And why doesn't she (or Pat) give a toss about Helen as their grandaughter/daughter, rather than tutting at her poor pregnancy skills??

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 09/02/2016 17:47

And I don't see any grounds for thinking she's going to take rob down a peg or two! She loves him, and I think she's more likely to tell him what a lovely husband he is and not to let H out of his sight than anything else!

The way she talks about working class characters boils my piss. And she was absolutely horrible to Jonny.

JessieMcJessie · 09/02/2016 17:59

June Spencer did say recently that while she could see a little bit of herself in Peggy they weren't really that alike as she (June) had a sense of humour!
