Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but there's a follow-on series by a different team Undisclosed - the State vs Adnan Syed. It gets into more technical stuff about inconsistencies in the case. Nothing compares to the original, obviously, but I've been enjoying it

Thanks, I'll take a look. Did you see as well that they are currently working on series 2 and 3 of Serial - I'm very much looking forward to those.

I remember them saying they were on the lookout for a story that would work, but didn't know it was underway. Does that mean they are working on two different stories at the same time? Serial has really got me into podcasts in general, but nothing has been as good so far.

I think that's right, they will have more than one main story and then see which one is going the best and then pile into that one. It's been such a huge success.

if you like podcasts there are loads of good ones. This is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard..........

Call your mom was very good - these podcasts feel like disappearing down a rabbit hole. Going to try Loon Lake next.

Just listened to Loon Lake. Thought it would help me get through the housework but ended up just standing by the sink listening. Great stuff

I know! Loon Lake is AWESOME radio but I wouldn't want to listen to it alone in the house at night, it really scared me.

Think I looked at this for the children a while back but gave up - must look again as no doubt there are some gems if I can weed out a few duffers. They are both avid listeners and it's hard to keep them supplied. Plus I wouldn't mind listening to some of the classics. It's odd, I used to be an avid fiction listener and joined audible, then ever since Serial I've been hooked on real life stuff. Some of the comments in Loon Lake struck me as like something from a novel, they were articulate in a very un-selfconscious way, especially when the mother was talking about how offensive she found it that the house was left and relating it to her own family being exiled during the war

Have you tried Stuff You Should Know? I live those guys....
Also death sex and money has some v dark podcasts as does Criminal.

This American Life #559 Captain's Log is great for anyone wanting to try this series - the bit about Girl Scouts is one of the most inspiring things I've ever heard

Was captain's log about the couple whose daughter got sick on the boat in the middle of nowhere and they had to abandon ship and get airlifted by the US coastguard?

I'm about halfway through so maybe that's one of the stories. It starts off with the sinking of the Lusitania I think, then the Girl Scout one is about somebody who found a log with a scouting song and looked into it because it read as though it was to be sung in a concentration camp. The story is about children in China when the Japanese invaded (probably for the most part the children of missionaries) and they were packed off to a concentration camp where they formed or continued a Girl Scout company, and the effect it had on the whole camp.
