It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

Much as I loved hearing Phil's voice I do understand what you're saying BOOP . It was a bit afternoon play-ish.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/02/2015 07:42

Gosh, BOOP, seeing the timestamp on your latest post I'm now concerned you've sat up all night brooding about this. [concerned emoticon]

stilllearnin · 20/02/2015 08:31

Gypsy- I thought exactly that too! It was defo not TA. just re-read my post from last night. I meant going gushy at the wittiness of pp's! I wasn't even drinking!

Errol is spot on of course.

dairyfarmerswife · 20/02/2015 08:46

I listened last night while checking the calving cows. Very surreal hearing sheep bleating while I was looking at a shred full of cows! And hearing David talking to Rosetta while I was moving a cow. Not so atmospheric forking up silage during the jumble sale though....

I am a post Phil listener so I was a bit confused by the flashback. Not sure how I feel about it, seems over dramatic and a bit EE. Particularly on the night of the big EE reveal. (I don't watch it these days so haven't a clue what's going on, can only keep up with 15 mins a day now!)

dairyfarmerswife · 20/02/2015 08:47

A shed full of cows, obviously...

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/02/2015 08:55

Aibu to want to move from my new village?
Today i went to the village jumble sale where I had bought a vintage old farm set which dd is going to love. We are new to the village and everyone seemed friendly. Then there is bashing on the door and this wild eyed middle aged man is babbling on about his farm. I closed the door I wa so frightened and he kept bashing. Then an old lady approached and explains he's her son and the farm was put in the sale by accident etc etc. at this point I was so shaken up I gave it back.

Have I made a big mistake moving here?

ZeroFunDame · 20/02/2015 09:08

Was last night some sort of homage to Grace's death competing with the launch of ITV? Phil coming back to rival the EE revelation? (Although they're both BBCConfused)

Well spotted re the Biblical reference for Lent JMcJ. So we should expect the dénouement of the sab story at Easter?

PetulaGordino · 20/02/2015 09:09

YANBU BYOS - i think you should call the police on 101. it will make you feel safer and i expect there's a friendly local bobby who will know who they are and will make sure they get the help they need

ZeroFunDame · 20/02/2015 09:10
Grin
BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/02/2015 09:14

That's a good idea petula. I have actually met the local bobby as he walks the beat, ruffling childrens hair, carrying old ladies bags etc. in fact he single handedness carried our grand piano into the lounge when we moved in.

nauticant · 20/02/2015 09:15

Last night's episode made me cringe.

LillianGish · 20/02/2015 09:33

My objection to the Phil flashback (much as I loved hearing his voice - instantly recognisable) is that Archers listeners don't need to hear it. We've been echoing those words since this ridiculous plotline was first mooted - David would never sell Brookfield for those very reasons. That's why so many people on this thread have never for a moment thought Brookfield would be sold. All we've been doing is trying to work out what would happen to stop it - death of Heather, sinkhole etc etc Who could have predicted it would be the ghost of Phil?? I'm with Boop here - a ridiculous and fanciful conclusion to an entirely unbelievable plot - waking up in the shower would have been no less ludicrous.

Not only could another character have mentioned it, but they could have mentioned it much earlier - we've been shouting about it on here since the first mention. It is unrealistic that this thought has only just occurred - and then only via the medium of a dead character. It's the same objection I have to to the Brookfield dairy - if it ever existed it would have been mentioned before. Sock is rewriting history to suit the plot when actually there is a huge amount of real history to draw on to generate drama.

nauticant · 20/02/2015 09:50

Yep. It's one of those wholly synthetic SLs that can't really be interacted with as real (with the context of TA). Instead, the way we interact with it is to view it as a curious mechanism and look at it from different angles and poke it here and there to see how it ticks.

trevortrevorslattery · 20/02/2015 09:51

WTF was that???? Hmm Confused

PetulaGordino · 20/02/2015 09:59

you've expressed this very well. i've been looking at the SL in quite a detached way - it's not credible but i can see that once the nonsense is over there could be some interesting storylines that follow from the fallout. but of course in a longrunning drama you can't just say "the ends justify the means" because we have to sit through the means and it tests the patience

trevortrevorslattery · 20/02/2015 10:05

Oh XP with everyone Blush.

That was ridiculous.

I like the idea of the cow with a taperecorder strapped round it middle playing Phil's words to Deevid though.

We must all brace ourselves for the new family of characters who will undoubtedly be attached to Janet-of-the-toy-farm!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/02/2015 10:07

Agree

So Ruth said she wanted to sign contracts next Friday with no mention of the he contract. That's just plain stupid isn't it?

I wonder if they will have got themselves into debt if they pull out now.

Whilst money problems are obviously 'real life' I'm not sure I can cope if every character is suffering from them!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2015 10:16

I'm not sure who there would be though who could have had that conversation with David. His self-interested siblings certainly wouldn't; Ruth wants to move up to her mother so she's being a bit obvlivious; Jill wouldn't be that obvious. No-one outside the family would have known the details of how the Brookfield settlement was arrived at.

I sort of thought that it was OK on this one occasion because the stress and exhaustion has been building up in David in a pretty credible way and those are the sort of conditions under which people are more likely to hallucinate so he might 'really' have been hearing Phil, IYSWIM.

(If it wasn't Rosetta - the translating cow?)

BitOutOfPractice · 20/02/2015 10:17

Mimsy thank you for your concern. While the appearance of The Ghost of Farmers Past did indeed discombobulate and deboopificate me, it was not that keeping me awake. It may or may not have been a hot flush but being in the prime of life, I can neither confirm nor deny that

BitOutOfPractice · 20/02/2015 10:24

I bet we can come up with ten Archers characters who have broken all ten of the Commandments

Thou shalt not commit adultery...let's think...
Though shalt not covet thy neighbours ox...

enochroot · 20/02/2015 10:27

Jill wouldn't have let the farm go to the jumble sale. She would have kept it and I expected her to produce it last night. Instead it becomes a clumsy metaphor for the real farm.

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2015 10:34

Blimey David's soooo tired he's channelled his Dad Shock I won't lie though, it made me cry when he broke down, that man is a good actor.

I' m trying to think of a way he could stay and Ruth could go op North but with the money thing, he'd still have to move out Sad.

choccyp1g · 20/02/2015 11:00

But surely Heather is going to SOTMC before they sign contracts...
