It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

Perhaps they will bring back Sophie for David!

ZeroFunDame · 24/02/2015 09:20

Ah yes. Paul. Does he really count? (The SWs seemed very confused over whether he made her happy or not. I guess I never really believed any of that story ...)

trevortrevorslattery · 24/02/2015 09:41

S6 ULA if anyone's interested!

Ha there is no need for Kate to get another job as she clearly already works in the shop where Lilian's card was declined.

I am loving angry Ruth. Very realistic IMO.

trevortrevorslattery · 24/02/2015 09:44

Oh and whyyyyy after weeks of Matt being away has Lilian only just realised she'd need to stop him having access to joint accounts? Confused

That would be the first thing to do. And daily checking the bank to make sure nothing fishy was happening. Hmph.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2015 09:56

That's true Mimsy I've never thought of Lil as a great businesswoman; just one who's inherited a load of money, loves splashing it about, and basically having a 'good' time She's got a 'heart of gold' though.

Large BOOP point for Kate hearing some home truths at last!

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2015 09:57

A woman with 3 kids !! Shock she has arrested development that Kate.

Hakluyt · 24/02/2015 10:06

"Cannot see the point of this story. It's as if the people in charge have never once in their lives thought about how fiction works. How it differs from RL and what makes it satisfying."

Oh yes -SO true!!!!!

I think it started with Roy and Lizzie. So out of character. And absolutely no adance clues. Writers just can't do that. That's not the deal. It's like introducing an entirely new character who hasn't even been hinted at on the last page of a whodunnit and saying he's the murderer.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2015 10:12

Aah but Hakluyt There were quite of us who thought that story line rang true actually Grin It happens a lot in RL.!

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2015 10:13

Sorry 'quite a few of us'.

trevortrevorslattery · 24/02/2015 10:14

Oh X-post with lots more articulate people Blush.

I put my money on Mothering Sunday for Heatherpet's demise Sad.

It's as if the people in charge have never once in their lives thought about how fiction works. How it differs from RL and what makes it satisfying.

^^ this is so insightful. I've never thought about it either but now you mention it I can see that it's so true.

enochroot · 24/02/2015 10:55

I agree with BYOS that too many SLs revolve around money. It also irritates me that it's always done so sketchily.

True that Lillian wasn't a good business woman as demonstrated by how she drove Brenda away but now there's an opportunity to show her upping her game and extracting herself from the mess. And, yes, it's another reversal of fortune story connected to Peggy's will.

Alsoflamingo · 24/02/2015 11:04

Agree that it is absurd to think Lilian wouldn't already have blocked Matt from her accounts. Insulting to our intelligence.

I am very much in the PRO ROOTH camp apart from absurd OTT accent. Playing second fiddle to one's husband's family in perpetuity surely unendurable? Not even being consulted. DH running to mummy first. UN. HEALTHY.

And quick Q for the pros - why is Shula called Shula? What sort of a name is it anyway?

enochroot · 24/02/2015 11:05

Will someone please look in on Peggy!

enochroot · 24/02/2015 11:07

I think we were told during the attic clearance that Phil and Jill tossed letters in the air to come up with names for the twins.

Lilymaid · 24/02/2015 11:08

why is Shula called Shula
I think Jill explained this recently, when she was sorting through the toys for the jumble sale. Jill and Phil used Scrabble counters and the names of Shula and Kenton somehow came up. Can't remember now whether they threw them in the air or picked them out of the bag.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2015 11:10

I'm not sure - assuming that Lillian's accounts were not joint accounts (and why the heck would they be) then it might not occur to her that Matt would fraudulently access and empty them.

We had the explanation for Shula (and Kenton) recently, when Jill unearthed the old toys. Apparently she and Phil randomly threw the letter blocks for inspiration.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2015 11:16

I'm sure Peggy is being taken on hospital visits to Tony, church etc as usual. Though she is overdue an appearance to pontificate on Bridge Farm businesses and Lillian and Kate. (starts worrying slightly that June Spencer may be unwell - perhaps she doesn't want a trip out to do recording at this time of year. You'd think they could get some OB people to go to her once in a while)

enochroot · 24/02/2015 11:17

I can just about get my head round Matt emptying the bank accounts, Errol, assuming he had authority to access them. What I can't understand is that Lillian didn't then put a stop on him accessing any credit cards or check if they were being used.

Alsoflamingo · 24/02/2015 11:19

Thank you for scrabble explanation although surely a bit weird to use such a random method for naming a child for life?

Kate just insufferable. Am longing for her to seduce some hapless student on her course and entice him away to Injya or similar to 'find himself'.

enochroot · 24/02/2015 11:22

I also wonder if June Spencer is unwell but they usually get round cast illnesses by at least mentioning the character. 'I dropped in on Mum and gave the cat its flea treatment.' 'Mum was desperate to have her hair done.'

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2015 11:32

enoch She's also an alcoholic old lady (even older than me) Blush Grin she said she was looking forward to a quiet retirement didn't she? So maybe she's sort of given up now her crutch Matt is gone. Sad

Hakluyt · 24/02/2015 11:35

"I am very much in the PRO ROOTH camp apart from absurd OTT accent. Playing second fiddle to one's husband's family in perpetuity surely unendurable? Not even being consulted. DH running to mummy first. UN. HEALTHY. "

I'm pro Ruth too. But hang on a cotton pickin minute! Who was being expected to pull up all his roots against his will and start a completely new life so as to be near who's mother??????????????????

enochroot · 24/02/2015 11:55

True, ppeat but it all is sitting badly with me and I can't quite explain it.

The well-being of Peggy's cat, for example!
I'm in my early 60s and DH has an on-going heart condition. Ridiculous as it seems I sometimes lie awake worrying about who is going to help me wrestle the cat into a basket to take to the vet for a booster injection.
TA used to be about little things which made up the whole. So if Peggy needed help with her cat it would be a little homily on looking after neighbours.
Now, if Peggy's moggy fell into a decline we'd immediately think something sinister was going on and Rob had poisoned it.
A routine trip to take an old lady to have a hair-do is a prelude to a trampling by bull. Now if a hair appointment were mentioned I would assume she's going to encounter Jess at the salon.
Every little detail is now dripping with sinister portent instead of being routine stuff of village life. IYSWIM.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2015 12:22

I know what you mean enoch but there have been quiet episodes and no doubt there will be others Grin SOC needs to be informed that we 're happy with them.

We're not all waiting breathlessly for the next cliff hanger.< To SOC >"Calm down dear". Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/02/2015 12:41

I do not want Heatherpet to SOTMC.

I think she should take a beach holiday in the sun somewhere and find a toyboy lover.

Piggoi could go with her and do the same.
