It's all getting rather delicious. I feel sorry for Kenton the fool

Ruths behaviour over the whole thing ('there's noooo other way') and David not feeling he can talk to her show more cracks in the marriage then falling out over the sale in itself will cause (which I assume s not the sw intention but a side effect of the way it is plotted - which again brings me to my main complaint that they prioritise plot over character)

I couldn't agree more! If this can be resolved between David and Ruth as a single issue (disagreement over the sale) it is utter garbage. The marriage has just been shown to be a sham - not a team at all, not respecting each other enough to be honest, not confident enough you'd be supported to share doubts Sad.

Graahr.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 23/02/2015 11:03

Lots of like minds!!

I really do think this is plot over character and cracks in marriage weren't intended!

Do we think pip went to her room to cry on her bed and go on twitter to complain how unfair it all is!!

I think phoebe will move in with Roy again. It was interesting hearing her concern for him. She loves her dad and what he did to Hayley will eventually fade for her as a reason to hate him - especially with the divorce and everything as I think Hayley is already showing she is happy with her plans.

We can't lose phoebe as she seems to be the only sensible and clever teens at the moment (although rich is good too - where has he gone?)

ppeatfruit · 23/02/2015 11:19

Agree about the SW channelling Stella Gibbons Grin

I'm trying to remember who cracked the joke, "oedipus shcmeeoedipus as long as he loves his mother" ? Was it Jackie Mason?

Abra1d · 23/02/2015 11:29

Yes, we need Phoebe and Rich!

Alsoflamingo · 23/02/2015 11:37

Blimey this thread moves along at a right old pace! I was away for half term, but didn't let that stop me listening from Italy…… Excellent episode last night. Agree Phoebe clearly thawing out in major way where her dad is concerned. Will confess felt rather sad at Hayley's decision (having been urging her to LTB previously). Over-invested, moi?

Minimammoth · 23/02/2015 11:54

Did anyone her the R4 'quiz' Saturday morning, asking the same question to a so called East enders fan and an Archers fan. Showed how many story lines they had in common. Perhaps there's a storyines 'bible' The Archers 'fan' was rubbish she gave both Brian and Kate the Archer surname.
Yes you could almost here the crack of lightening with the words 'there's no other way'. Pip and Ruth up to Prudhoe, Ben Josh and David stay to farm with mummy.

ppeatfruit · 23/02/2015 12:03

No Minimammoth I'll try Listen Again sounds interesting.

Still pondering the earlier discussion about Jill's favourites and have concluded that she tends to support whoever needs her most. So though Shula is very sidelined at the mo when Marks died and when she and he were having problems conceiving Jill was v supportive. Same with Lizzie - huge support and concern with heart problems and Nigel's death, less so when she was throwing her toys out of the pram over the inheritance. I think she has increasingly leaned towards David since Phil's death because he is Phil's true successor and it is telling that she wouldn't have followed him to Prudhoe. Any early tension with Ruth over her not being a traditional farmers wife is long since forgotten as Jill can now see that has enabled her to keep her role as matriarch. Obviously as others have pointed out Kenton never really features as a favourite - he is definitely the black sheep - almost certainly as a result of his leaving Ambridge and trying to have a life of his own elsewhere. Impossible to predict what will happen now as the situation is so artificial - it seems a bit churlish for Ruth to accuse David of being a mummy's boy when the move was all about her mum. It also seems unlikely that the siblings will blame Jill - but who knows? With Sock at the helm it will be whatever suits the plot.

ppeatfruit · 23/02/2015 12:13

The move wasn't ALL about Heatherpet though Lilian the road was what swung it for Dave I think.

LillianGish · 23/02/2015 12:43

I agree ppeat - I was just thinking of Ruth's enraged cry of What about my mum? (A mum she scarcely mentions let alone visits except when convenient to the plot - though in the past, when Heatherpet was another person entirely (literally) she used to visit Ambridge quite happily and get involved in village life). I think you are probably right though it's just that I find the whole route B thing so unconvincing (like the farm move itself) that I just don't think for a moment it will happen and forget that we are supposed to believe that the characters think it might.

trevortrevorslattery · 23/02/2015 13:41

Hello again! Could I take a quick poll please? reasons to be explained later.
Do you think it's ok to post a photo of a random stranger's car including the reg number, as long as there is nothing else to identify the person, location or vehicle?

I have something I would like to share with the thread but not sure if it's ok or not Smile

PigletJohn · 23/02/2015 13:58

the reg no identifies them

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2015 14:48

Newspapers photoshop the numberplate to fuzz don't they?

LammilyDoll · 23/02/2015 14:55

Best not to, Trevor. What if "someone" is not where he's supposed to be, and his DW is on this thread . . .

trevortrevorslattery · 23/02/2015 15:12

Ah Ok best not then.. Just someone with an Archers-related personalised numberplate lives in my street and I was itching to show you all Smile.

I've never seen them though - will have to walk the dogs past their house whistling Barwick Green and see if they come out for a chat!

Littleturkish · 23/02/2015 15:14

Just listened to the film!! Oh David. David David David. You crazy little farmer you. Rooooth is going to go spare! But I take it that I've missed an episode as you're all saying that already!

squeaver · 23/02/2015 16:00

Again with the rain!

So... a sinkhole opens up on Brookfield land, causing a mudslide right down the fields and into The Bull.

Route B can't go ahead and Justin E wouldn't want the land anyway.

But will it cause so much damage that David can't open the open-air miling parlour with Ed as manager?

J62 · 23/02/2015 17:08

Hope you don't mind me changing subject slightly but does anyone know what has happened to Peggy (or PEGI 90 as my kid's call her!)

Bluestocking · 23/02/2015 17:41

I LA'd this afternoon - Jill's ill-concealed glee in her conversation with Ruth was pretty disturbing. I think this is Jill revenging herself on Heatherpet as payback after the Marmalade Wars. Hell hath no fury and all that.

R4 · 23/02/2015 17:51

Aww, I wanted to see Trevor's neighbour's number plate. Talking of whistling Barwick Green, did anybody else hear this programme this afternoon? (fast forward to 8:45)

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 23/02/2015 18:00

Yes poor Peggy. That ankle of hers must be in a terrible state.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 23/02/2015 18:30

Ruth magically lost her accent when she was "cross". I think?

Putthetulipsthere · 23/02/2015 18:36

So finally Ruth knows... Although I do think it's strange she hasn't picked up on David's change of heart over past few weeks! But then I think their decision to move at all is completely out of character anyway!! Surely most farmers would do anything to stay put ( ie look into compensation money & a bridge over the road - which was mentioned I think?) even in the face of Heatherpet.

Also I think the old Pip would never have wanted to leave. The SW seem to have given her a whole new personality along with the change of actress (old ground I know but I can't get used to Pip's sudden accent change)

However, I really enjoyed last night's episode: it seemed to open up all sorts of new story lines ... I don't remember Ruth & Jill falling out before, and as for David & Ruth, maybe that's another marriage on the rocks??

enochroot · 23/02/2015 18:42

As far as I remember Peggy last appeared when Tony came out of his coma as soon as she mentioned that she regretted the terms of her will.

No one's mentioned her since and I don't recall Tom popping round to say hello after the came home from Canada. (But would she know him? He's changed so much!)

Bea · 23/02/2015 19:07

oh! Get Over it Ruth!!!
