I have it on good authority that this is the thread that people enjoy more than the programme it's about Grin

Actually I could live with the new voice - it's the entirely new character of Pip that's hard to stomach. She was so chaotic before, so screechy and babyish. I know people grow up - but NewPip is the epitome of calm, considered, responsible grown upness. The new actress must surely have been briefed on Pip - and listened to her previous incarnation? And they're writing her as if none of the previous historic battles with her family ever took place.

GypsyFloss · 06/01/2015 20:45

Exactly! She's not only got a new voice , she's had a complete personality transplant.
If they can keep Kate being as self obsessed as ever how come they have changed Pip? Her dad's nickname for her was Pipsqueak. This " Pipsqueak" sounds more like a lumberjack!

GypsyFloss · 06/01/2015 20:46

But I suppose the old Pip would have been against the move...

DadDadDad · 06/01/2015 21:23

My goodness, there's some clever people on this thread. It's only reading back just now that I spotted this little dialogue:

R4 wrote:
...for a MN gold medal, it should be a haiku

crispsarenotoneofyour5aday then (with a few posts in between and no obvious reference to R4) posted this:
I am new to this
Convert through lack of Lowfield
It's back yet I stay!

And I only twigged a few minutes ago that's a haiku! Nice one, crisps. Did anyone else spot it? Obviously R4 did because she came back with:
^^

Good stuff.Wine

By the way, over 100 posts in one day - this is more like it!

Icimoi · 06/01/2015 21:29

Dan isn't newDan, is he?

Bluestocking · 06/01/2015 21:30

Fallon and her Bags of Potential Tearoom - will she end up in that mysterious building that moves around Ambridge and isn't always visible? I remember it being mentioned on a previous thread. Was it another pub?
Smile NewKate, voice is perfect and character in tune with the Kate we've grown to know and detest over the years. And not particularly OTT - have any of you ever been to Totnes? She'd be considered pretty mainstream there.
Smile Great dialogue between Helen and Tom this evening, very natural and fraternal.
Smile Also great dialogue between Fallon and Kenton, and very satisfactory counting of chickens/spending of money that hasn't yet materialised.
Smile Knobcheese storyline. Chilling last line this evening - Helen will have to think twice before discussing anything with Tom in case Rob finds out.

PetulaGordino · 06/01/2015 21:40

I also find it hard to separate the actir's actions from plod the character but that's my own problem.

Ignoring that though, I don't mind plod being dull, i think there should be "boring" characters to keep it balanced and vary the tone, so that's as it should be. But I wanted there to be a young woman who was genuinely happy being single, not out of a relationship and then straight into will-they-won't-they crap as though every woman who isn't widowed should be in her rightful place shacked up

I know I'm exaggerating and in a realistic way Fallon was being strongly encouraged by her mum and friends against her better judgement, but I would have quite liked it if that feeling had won out rather than the relationship

Anyway, moan over. I also enjoyed tonight, some plots moved gently along in a realistic way. I did wonder whether Freda is going to do a Clarrie and her tummy bug will give Kenton the means to get rid of her (would that be legal??), and giving fallon a regular nepotistic customer

PrincessFiorimonde · 06/01/2015 21:43

Thanks for the new thread, Pseudo.

ZeroFunDame · 06/01/2015 21:44

Arkwright Hall Blue?

I tremble for Kenton. By the time the Brookfield deal falls through he'll have promised large sums of cash to half the village. They'll be coming at him with pitchforks.

BiscuitMillionaire · 06/01/2015 22:01

Smile Kenton is absolutely my favourite actor and character. The actor sounds so natural I forget he's not real, and the character is brilliant - flawed yet loveable.

Confused NYE young farmers ball - could anyone keep track of who was who?

And why was Hellin so outraged when she caught Adam and Charlie snogging (or worse)? Wouldn't she have just walked away in embarrassment and shock? It was Hellin, wasn't it?

choccyp1g · 06/01/2015 22:07

The effect of overdosing on Pontefract cakes are not catching. They are pure licorice and go through you like all sorts.

guineapiglet · 06/01/2015 22:19

I love Pontefract Cakes
And Kendal Mint cake
And Eccles Cakes
And Welsh Cakes
Etc
I wonder what an Ambridge Cake would taste like, obviously cooked to perfection by Emmur and Fallon... But what would it contain?
Grundy Cider Apples?
Jill's Brookfield Honey?
Organic flour /dairy produce from Bridge Farm?
Ed's Jersey herd Clotted Cream

Sounding yummy....

PseudoBadger · 06/01/2015 22:22

Once upon a time Biscuit, Helen had a best friend who was married to Adam...

OP posts:
PetulaGordino · 06/01/2015 22:22

Ah I didn't pick up on the fact that it was the pontefract cakes that were the problem

BringYourOwnSnowman · 06/01/2015 22:26

isn't adam her favourite cousin?

so ed is still reluctant at getting married in the church his fiance married his brother in. can't say i blame him!!

nauticant · 06/01/2015 22:27

They are pure licorice and go through you like all sorts.

by choccyp1g got a laugh out of me.

PetulaGordino · 06/01/2015 22:30

I hate liquorice so I have never tried pontefract cakes. I saw a whole tv programme on them once, showed how they made them etc

Minimammoth · 06/01/2015 22:30

Blimey you lot are up to 5 pages already. I have missed so many episodes I have hardly noticed the new voices. I like the Fallon HRrison storyline, it seems likely, although the recycled tearoom of Ambridge not so much.
Hate Kate. Helrob is winding me up through lack of questions about baby, no conversation with Jess etc and Unlikely lack of gossip around it.
I am guessing Carol is replacing the Marjorie Antrobus, mrs Pargitter type character. I miss Marjorie and her 'girls'

Bluestocking · 06/01/2015 22:33

I agree, BYOS - does Emma have a loyalty card for weddings at St Stephens? Will she get her third wedding completely free?

ZeroFunDame · 06/01/2015 22:36

Blue You open up whole new vistas. I'm now imagining Emma ending up as a very grand old lady looking back on seven husbands - with absolutely no regrets.

Karasea · 06/01/2015 22:37

Marjorie was marvellous.
Kate is pleasingly insufferable, Kenton lovely but oddly I fancy Adan a bit. 'Shut up?' Hmmmm ok.

Bluestocking · 06/01/2015 22:38

I like that idea, Zero! As Emma is supposed to be rather gorgeous, she could marry ever more successful farmers with bigger estates, and compete with Brenda as she marries ever more successful venture capitalists with bigger portfolios.

minklundy · 06/01/2015 22:39

You have to wonder what is going on at organics though

BringYourOwnSnowman · 06/01/2015 22:40

The only flaw in your plan Blue is that there are no more grundy brothers. So we either need some long lost cousins or she could marry Joe next?

ZeroFunDame · 06/01/2015 22:41

Grin bigger portfolios Grin

I am dying here ...
