Thanks for the new thread!
BOOP-point - can't we just put
to anything positive?
NewKate is fine. The characterisation seems pretty consistent with her previous appearances, viz, she still makes me want to whack her over the head with a meat pack. Voice is in line with the old actress's voice.
RichJohn - like the character, distinctive voice, serves a useful purpose at Bridge Farm.
Charlie - I rather like him and he's a very distinctive character. Good actor, I'd say.
Carol - jury's out chez Mimsy, but at least we can't muddle her up with anyone else.
HellRob storyline - vg so far. Hoping for the return of Jess in the near future.
NewTom, NewPip, NewJosh - disastrous at present as I can't recognise the voices and they're too similar to other people. Pip sounds utterly different from before in character as well as in voice, and the accent wobbles from one word to the next.
They need to do something about that. They could - after all, these are all Professionally Trained Actors, which is why they've been taken. Surely all PTAs are expert at changing the way they sound to suit the requirements of the role? On radio that means sounding noticeably different from everyone else in the cast.
When Adam first appeared umpteen years ago, people wrote to Feedback to complain they couldn't distinguish him from Kenton and Alistair, and the result is the rather odd but very distinctive way he speaks now.
Re-casting is obviously necessary from time to time, but I'm still cross about NewTom (a) because it was quite obviously a policy decision rather than forced on the team by unavailability of previous actor and (b) because of the way the whole re-casting thing was handled - SO'C casting aspersions on some of the younger actors, the mysterious stand-out performance at auditions of an actor who happened to be the son of another new member of the cast....
