How old are Archers listeners...

DadDadDad · 12/11/2014 21:51

...who post on Radio Addicts threads on MN and are willing to admit their age?

That was a question that was answered by a sample of 51 on the Archers thread which started 3rd November. But I thought I'd restate the results here for posterity (and easy future reference).

Age...Frequency (1 face = 1 listener)
25-29 HmmHmm
30-34 HmmHmmHmmHmmHmm
35-39 HmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmm
40-44 HmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmm
45-49 HmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmm
50-54 HmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmm
55-59 HmmHmmHmm
60-64 HmmHmmHmmHmmHmm
65-69 Hmm

The average (mean) age is 46.1 and the ages range from 28 to 66.

I've changed the smileys to more sceptical faces as that seems to capture the current mood. Grin

With the exception of footle who was the oldest person to reveal their age (which explains why the sample size has increased to 51), I did not collect any ages mentioned on the main Archers thread after 5 November 9:50am (see link below).

The main reason for a separate thread was just to preserve the results of this nearly pointless exercise. However, if you want your age to be added - or to reveal you are younger than 28 or older than 66 - then I might get round to adding you to the graph, if you post below starting your post in the following format (makes it easy to find):

Age=XX

What i need to know is how does this distribution of ages compare to the mumsnet average?

I'm 54 and my sister (also TA listener) is 59. We have both been listening, or hearing, TA since childhood and listen to lots of R4 in general

footle - no! Shock RTFOP, you're already in the published dataset, so now you'll get double-counted.

45 but only been a regular listener for 2 years. Embracing middle age. Smile

toldmywrath · 18/11/2014 19:51

I'm already in your original statistical (smiley) analysis Dad3. However, I have rttop & so as not to replicate others' erroneous reporting & in a spirit of wanting to join in...I give you this information:
Dartford Tunnel age=51 (today)

DadDadDad · 18/11/2014 21:13

But, but, the Dartford Tunnel doesn't listen to The Archers. What's the one thing cars can't do in the Dartford Tunnel that they can do on the Dartford Bridge?

OP posts:
toldmywrath · 19/11/2014 08:58

Fair point, well put Dad.
Altho' being all metaphysical about it- how do we know that the Dartford tunnel doesn't listen to the Archers?

DadDadDad · 19/11/2014 10:13

Fair point - I suspect the Blackwall Tunnel would be more of an Eastenders fan, but wouldn't the Dartford Tunnel be more into The Only Way is Essex?

Which gives a clue to previous question:
What's the one thing cars can't do in the Dartford Tunnel that they can do on the Dartford Bridge?
Answer: drive south

And the other point is that we're collecting ages of MNetters who listen to TA. Would D/ford Tunnel be a MNetter? Perhaps with username of tolledmywrath. Grin

OMG Dad! You are genius! (I truly said Oh My God btw & laughed out loud)
I'm outed Grin

DadDadDad · 19/11/2014 11:25

No genius, I just have a weakness for puns and similar wordplay.

Actually, I'm missing the rather more prosaic truth: probably one thing you can't do in the tunnel that you can do on the bridge is listen to The Archers, as I presume there's no reception.

Are you still counting DDD?
47 & listening since before I was born - though realistically I can't remember much before I was 5/6.

DadDadDad · 19/11/2014 23:32

No, I'm not counting, although up thread, songbird said she might.

OP posts:
songbird · 20/11/2014 11:36

Yes, I'm still counting (I, probably like you DDD amd wondering why the flip I offered to do it!). I'm waiting for things to go very quiet before I produce the smaph.

mswibble · 20/11/2014 11:41

Age= 29

Have been listening for a fair few years. Helps pass the time as I'm washing up!

DadDadDad · 20/11/2014 12:35

songbird - well if you resign now, don't expect to be paid.

OP posts:
songbird · 20/11/2014 13:13

Mmn good point, I'd better deliver then hadn't I. Where do I send my invoice?

babyboomersrock · 21/11/2014 14:25

Age=67

I never post about the Archers but I listen and lurk. Have been a fan since the 70s - 'twas a soothing accompaniment to breastfeeding back in those pre-Mumsnet days but am finding it rather less relaxing now!

DadDadDad · 21/11/2014 15:00

babyboomersrock! how can you casually come on here and just casually announce your age? Shock Don't you realise you have broken the record and you are officially the oldest Archers listener on MN?!!! Grin

Congratulations.
