TMS: Educated and silly

Any body else love TMS? I'm not a great cricket fan but I do love TMS, especially Aggers. They read out a message from a German lady saying how she likes to listen to it as it improves her English - she was the one who summed it up as 'educated and silly'.

I wasn't keen on Boycott when he joined the team but Aggers has trained him up a treat. Their spats are hilarious. Aggers was talking about a pub he frequents when they play down in Southampton, which has a mule. It lives in a shed, pops out to bray very loudly at the punters and then disappears off again ... ... a bit like Geoffrey.

I love TMS, I also love cricket . What always impresses me is the way whoever they have on from the opposition country commentating fits in so well. I also like the way they will have a rambling topic of conversation for 10 mins or so which is utterly unrelated to cricket and througout that time they will interrupt the flow to describe the play and then switch seamlessly back to the rambling at hand.

Love it. Have listened to it from being very young - it was the soundtrack to our summers. Continued to listen to it, via the world service, when I lived overseas. I am particularly impressed to hear a woman commentating these past two days - who is she? Presumably ex-England ladies team.

By process of elimination from this list, I presume she is Alison Mitchell.

I fell into TMS by accident. I always listen to Radio 4 on Long Wave and someone, years ago, had the bright idea of putting TMS on the LW transmitter. I was initially very cross ... then one day I realised that I was no longer leaping to the radio to retune to FM as the prospect of Aggers & Co was preferable to Y&Y, some Simon Brett 'comedy' or the afternoon drama.

It was quite amusing during the last Test when Woman's Hour was doing a piece about the poor coverage of women's sport. They cut them off - in mid-rant, without any ceremony - to go to the men's cricket. Ironic!

Yes, Alison Mitchell. Really enjoying listening to her - I hope she's a permanent fixture.
