I'm bereft. Also Shelagh Fogarty and Victoria Derbyshire are going too. Now what am I going to listen to 2 till 4? The answer is definitely not the dreadful Steve Wright.

Are they being given the push it all leaving coincidentally for "personal" reasons?

Cherrypi · 10/07/2014 07:44

I think they all just hate commuting from London to Manchester.

I'm gutted, it's the only channel I listen to.
I particularly like Shelagh too,

I always hate the change in presenters/line up but it's always alright!! I won't miss Richard Bacon but I will really miss Vic and Shelagh..... Peter Allen and Adrian Chiles are doing the morning slot....

TiggyD · 10/07/2014 08:02

That's a pity. Of all the radio hosts in Britain he was the most like a real Alan Partridge. He was shit, but in a funny way.

Far from upset about Mr Bacon, but definitely going (even more) blokey with the loss of Victoria and Shelagh. I will listen even less when the change comes into effect.

The station is, in my mind, totally dominated by the 'sport' in 'News and Sport' - eg cutting into an interview with someone regarding the crisis over those refugees on that mountain near Syria, being interrupted for a damn wicket having been taken in a bloody cricket match, when there's about 10 minutes left before the top of the hour News headlines and f*ing Sport!

The cricket die-hards would have been listening live anyway, and the rest of us could surely wait a few minutes until the sports news was broadcast within the normal running time...

I guess I will enjoy 6Music all afternoon on weekday now.

Wish there were more talk stations to choose from. I still miss talk radio.

I'm surprised so many seem to dismiss Bacon, I think he's been excellent. Not afraid to ask very direct questions and tackle people but also good at handling the light stuff, I will miss him and it doesn't sound as if he's going off to do anything special either.

I loathe Adrian Chiles. Why oh why do they keep ramming him down our throats?? We were ready to strangle him during the World Cup.

I love Richard Bacon, he is Narcissistic and vainglorious but he is funny too and he asks extremely direct and difficult questions to the powerful and is charming enough to disarm while going for an answer. He has huge confidence as a broadcaster and a very distinctive take.

Radio 5 is a perfect setting for him, he is such a talent I think. But telly doesn't have the high IQ stage for him where he can thrive. There is only one Stephen Fry.

If only he would stop talking about his starry dinner parties with, I suspect, Alain de Grande Bottome, etc and showing off about his Shoreditch street food and meetings in darkest Brick Lane in places so trendy that no one has heard of them yet outside his own head.

but I 'll miss him!

Shelagh may have moved to World Service, was on the other day, anyway. If you want to try another talk radio station, well worth it.
