Outraged! 7th Dimension disappeared from 4extra Mon-Fri

I'd got used to having a daily fix of sci fi, fantasy and horror stories including some classic Dr Who, 1950s trips to Mars and so on. Easily accessible from 6pm - 7pm and midnight to 1.00am every day.

Suddenly without warning on Bank Holiday Monday just gone, its disappeared from the weekday schedule. Only available at weekends apparently. How dare they do this with no consultation! I hardly believe it was unpopular!!

Please complain to the BBC if you can

I agree fully.
I have just cancelled my subscription to their newsletter. If there's no more 7th dimension, I don't want to read about the other stuff.

I got an answer back from them about this when I complained. Same day, amazingly! Apparently there isn't enough archive material in these genres to keep going for much longer at this rate. That's why it is going to be rationed to weekends only. I find that hard to believe, but that's the answer I was given. Go buy some audiobooks, BBC, and press play!

Lame excuse!

Firstly, they must have worked out the logistics and vectors a long time ago (fade in: sound of disintegrating hull and exploding engines).

Secondly, I would think that there are other sources but it may be more expensive (or just excuses) I mean, in all the English speaking countries in the world? I don’t think I've heard a 7th Dimension show from OZ, NZ, SA or Canada?

Thirdly, if The Controllers (fade in diabolic music) had seen this they could have promoted SF/Fantasy writing competitions years ago and also let it be known on the writer’s network (i.e. their agents) that there was a market for suitable SF/Fantasy, believe me writers would have responded. How would I know? After graduating drama school, I also studied drama writing for two years at nights and then a year of private classes at the home of a produced writer for radio at the BBC and also for London theaters; hence, I suspect that even if this all seems plausible it is basically LAME (fade in: hisses and boos from hostile audience, fade out and fade in: knitting needles and the sound of the falling blade of a guillotine...)

Can understand your unhappiness, but it has been a bit repetitive, hasn't it?

I didn't remember how long they have been going (date for BBC7 shows as 2002), but do remember switching it on from time to time, having heard whatever was on (again) and switching over to something else.

Has happened again and again for me, similarly for various other material, such as Baldi, Falco, etc. (Though must admit, in the future, I will probably set one radio up on R4 Extra and just record 24h a day and keep the series I want.)

I found this anoying too. I can recommend librivox. This is an organisation that uses amature readers to produce spoken books for free download. Some resderd are better than other but anything read by Mark Nelson is great. Lots of sci fi too.
