Will this thread make it to the wedding? Will it outlive Tony?

Hello! Long-time lurked on thread but even longer-time listener to TA - so long, in fact, that I remember Pat's worry and upset when the newborn Hellqueen had a problem with her hip!

I suspect that Dan has decided not to take up his deferred Uni place and wants to become a personal trainer or somesuch instead, rather than following his late father into the Law Shock. Which will, of course, leave St Smugula horrified that not only has Blessed Mark's Sainted Memory been besmirched but her bragging rights are also diminished!

Can't wait...

R4 · 03/04/2014 21:24

I don't believe the takeover story either. I'm sure that the Articles would have a clause giving all existing shareholders first refusal on any shares for sale.

Isn't the fate of JD's kitchen already sealed? It will be installed, disastrously, while she is away on holiday.
I smiled at N B-S's mention of "An intuitive Space (somewhere to intuit)". Reminds me of those coasters you get called tuits as in 'one of these days I'll get a round tuit'.
You need to get your laughs when you can in an office.Hmm

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/04/2014 21:29

I'm hoping there's some malice aforethought in the continuity announcer's hint "Dan drops a bombshell"... Envronmental protest or somesuch. Guess his running away to join a terrorist cell in the desert is a little too much to hope for.

But, like LillianG (naturally) I expect we'll hear a less surprising explanation for the son and heir's sudden interest in upgrading his looks and smell.

Anyway - the real question is - will the new mega-dairy board feel the same need for a mega-dairy manager?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 03/04/2014 21:45

Good point, Zero

It'll need A manager - will they think it needs THIS manager though...?

GrendelsMum · 03/04/2014 22:16

From personal experience, I suspect that the takeover story might be more true to life than you might think.

anyway, I don't care if it's actually totally unlikely - i can't wait to hear Brian battling it out like an aging stag threatened by a young upstart, while the £80,000 kitchen is held hostage.

BiscuitMillionaire · 03/04/2014 22:48

I think Dan is moonlighting as a male stripper or rent boy.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 03/04/2014 22:50

"I've got the intuitive pentagon and I'll make it irregular if you don't give me back my shares!"

That kind of thing, GrendelsMum? :)

Bluestocking · 03/04/2014 23:10

Perhaps Dan is working as a Butler in the Buff? But I think it's more likely he has fallen in love with another man, at least I do hope so just for the fun of hearing St Smugula turning herself inside out over it.

Cretaceous · 03/04/2014 23:20

I'd vote for an affair with a much older, tattooed Muslim bodybuilder with one earring, just to complete the set of Smugla's prejudices - and if the SW can get a love child in there somewhere, so much the better...

But I think it might be that Dan's decided to become an accountant. Wink

JessieMcJessie · 04/04/2014 01:54

Basketz sorry, I didn't make my point clearly enough. One of the features of Jazzer as a character is that the SW have taken the decision to have him speak broad Glesca at all times despite the fact that, as you say, all those years in Borsetshire would have modified his accent and vocabulary. In my recollection they frequently have him using expressions that would be unintelligible to non -Scots, with no explanation whatsoever, when in real life he would not say those things, for exactly the reason you describe. Though I think that a skelf would be fairly obvious from the "aiyah!" that would go with it.

TallGiraffe · 04/04/2014 08:29

What about joined the army? After meeting the army bloke who was inspecting the rough and ready course.

WillieWaggledagger · 04/04/2014 08:47

that's what i wondered tallgiraffe, or possibly the police/fire service (fitness training etc) - i'd forgotten about hte army chaps who came and checked the course too

WillieWaggledagger · 04/04/2014 08:48

also if police etc we might have heard him speaking to pc harrison ford

GypsyFloss · 04/04/2014 11:13

I think it's the army for Fat Dan .

Must catch up, not had a chance to listen much this week. I've been catching up via you lot .

So now we're hoping he's hooked up with a Muslim Army sergeant? Grin

QuietUntil3 · 04/04/2014 13:08

I've not been lurking on here for a few days but had a quick scan through and didn't see anyone linking to the BBC blog - the Archers Insider? Apologies if someone has already but I've just listened to it today - www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thearchers/posts/Listen-to-The-Archers-Insider (soup-slurping is discussed and there's an interview with Ruth!)

Pollycazalet · 04/04/2014 14:33

I think it's a boyfriend. So Dan can be the young free and single gay in the village in contrast to Adam and Ian the settled couple.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 04/04/2014 14:53

I said to my mum I thought Dan was heading to Sandhurst or somewhere...

LillianGish · 04/04/2014 15:23

Not sure if aftershave ties in with the army, however couldn't help noticing one of the teasers for next week says Dan gets some new boots!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/04/2014 16:47

Oh... Ruth's unhappy Mothers'Day queried on Feedback. And the Archers editor will be answering listeners' questions on the same show in a few weeks apparently.

GrendelsMum · 04/04/2014 17:37

PasBeau - yep, just like that!

nauticant · 04/04/2014 19:05

Oh-a no-ah! Now that posters here have drawn my attention to Heather-from-Viz's accent, hearing the character speak is now driving me up the wall.

MikeTheShite · 04/04/2014 19:09

I found out today that the actress playing Linda does the women's voices in postman pat.

stilllearnin · 04/04/2014 19:12

We taking bets? I'm plunging for Army!
