<squeal> Have got tickets for The News Quiz! Anyone know what time recording ends?

Really excited. Recording is on Thursday 14th Nov. Will need a babysitter but no idea how long for. We live outside London so 1.5 hrs to get home from venue. What time do you think we'll get back?

Have never been successful with tickets before. I think they're stil available if people fancy it.

Hi Bunjies, congratulations! We had tickets for a recording in the summer. It was good fun. The drill is as follows (this is basically what's printed on your ticket but just to clarify that they really mean a lot of this):

Your e-ticket says that doors will open from x time and recording will start at y time.

You need to know that if you turn up at x time you might be too late. They have so many no shows that they issue a lot more e-tickets than they can accommodate in the radio theatre to make sure they're full. So you need to be there a bit before x time, with printed copies of your tickets - that's essential! The ticketing operation is v. efficient - you and your partner/friend will both have to be there and they will put a sticker with a number on it onto each printed ticket.

From the time they say you can go in (ie x time) you can queue up to go through the airport-style security to get into the bar area. The bar usually serves food as well as drink, it's quite cheap and there's plenty of seating. You can look down into the newsroom while you wait.

Eventually they will start calling people through to the radio theatre. They start with people invited by the production team and then they might call everybody with a ticket numbered 1-50, then 51-100 and so on till they get to about 300 which is the capacity.

It took a while to get everybody seated and then there was a bit of a warm up when Sandi Toksvig introduced the panel. The actual recording might have taken a couple of hours, tops. I think you could assume that you'll be out of there by 9.30 at the latest if the recording is due to start at 7.15/7.30.

Gosh, lucky you, Vibee! I love going to BH. We also had tickets for John Finnemore's souvenir programme and a David Sedaris recording this summer. And all free! Amazing.

Someone above said that you had to be there a 'bit' earlier than the time on the ticket. I am going next week (v excited) - does anyone know how much earlier a 'bit' is?

Hello, hope I'm not too late! I'd say get there (if you can) at least half an hour before they say the doors will open. You will probably find there is already a queue. If there are two of you coming from different places and one can get there earlier to get into the queue and hold the place, I'd do that, but when you get to the head of the queue you both need to be there, as indicated upthread.

Am jealous but I'll restrict myself to a very pale shade of green as we're off to Souvenir Cabin in a couple of weeks .

I highly recommend Miles Jupp's book about cricket, Fibber in the Heat, even if you're not that into cricket it's a very entertaining (and quite poignant) read.

I paid £26 to see a stage show (mind you we probably got all of his radio show material in one so not all bad. & got a book signed - does he do that at recordings?)

Does anyone have any more info on the bar? My partner and I are due to go to a recording tomorrow (24th Sept) and because of the timings (5:15 validation, 6:15 entry, 7:15 doors open, 7:30 start), it looks like it will be easiest to grab a bite to eat there, rather than try and fit something in before (also have a long journey in). Will there be time to grab a hot meal (jacket potato/plate of chips)?

Sorry I didn't see this in time to be of use, Entrylevel, but I suspect now you are on the spot you will see that Broadcasting House is surrounded by cafes and bars. We usually go to Pizza Express just to the south where the service is pretty quick. Hope you enjoy the recording!
