New thread!

OP posts:

Then I definitely don't want to hear it - I would be too grrr, for all the reasons you outline.

I like Eddie - or at least the Eddie I used to know...

IndridCold · 22/09/2013 22:29

OK! You lot with the encyclopaedic knowledge of TA, who was Ryan? When Shula and Alistair were discussing offering Darrell a bed they referred to an incident with Ryan, and it all went tits up but I have no recollection of this, even though I've been listening for over 30 years Shock.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

curlew · 22/09/2013 22:40

He was a kid that Alasdair befriended and it all went horribly wrong in ways I don't remember. Which hs reminded me that there was also a girl, a girlfriend of Daniels who accused Alasdair of sexually assaulting her- that was another of those stories that mysteriously vanished. ....

CuttedUpPear · 22/09/2013 22:42

David accidentally killed Jethro?
And David was involved in the accidental death of Nigel?

curlew · 22/09/2013 22:46

And don't forget that Caroline is Will's godmother.........

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 22/09/2013 22:48

did Alastair meet Ryan at the gamblers group?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 22/09/2013 22:50

the girlfriend thing was one of those annoying Amex stories, wasn't it? she threw herself at Alastair?

EachAndEveryHighway · 22/09/2013 22:54

Think Ryan was a fellow AA attendee when Alistair used to go to those meetings ... hang on, no it was gambling not alcohol. He ingratiated himself with Alistair, and burgled his house when the opportunity presented itself. Somehow Kenton put two and two together, and worked out that Ryan was well dodgy. Can't remember quite how it ended, but Kenton basked in his own glory for a while ....

Somethingyesterday · 22/09/2013 23:58

Was Ryan also an Amex story? Because I don't remember hearing it - just hearing about it.....

Gigondas · 23/09/2013 06:15

Ryan was in main archers- think alistair was his mentor at gamblers anonymous.

LondonMother · 23/09/2013 07:38

Ryan wasn't an Amex story but it was one of those unsatisfying storylines that are clearly designed to fit into a few weeks and then go away leaving virtually no trace.

David is also a badger murderer, CuttedUpPear. Clearly a very dangerous person to be around. Elizabeth is little better. She was there when Dan Archer died, trying to turn over a sheep - a man in his 80s, a young healthy woman in her 20s - and of course she indirectly got Nigel out on the roof by forbidding him to do it. Shula was the one who found Doris dead in her armchair - deeply suspicious because Doris left Glebe Cottage to Shula in her will. If I were Jolene, I'd think twice about marrying into this family, I must say.

Bluestocking · 23/09/2013 08:25

It's just as well no member of the Archer clan is ever likely to be bright enough to get into medical school. Dr Archer would make Harold Shipman look like a dilettante.

Gigondas · 23/09/2013 08:45

What about lily? I thought she was meant to be some kind of infant prodigy .

curlew · 23/09/2013 08:48

Lily is apparently brighter than Freddie. Which isn't saying much.

Daniel got decent A levels, didn't he?

ppeatfruit · 23/09/2013 09:14

something I don't want to be another poster disagreeing with you WRF Eddie's outburst Grin but often people bite the hand which is kindest to them esp. when they're not thinking straight and are grieving at the possible end of a loved one's life. Sad

lottiegarbanzo · 23/09/2013 09:16

Daniel is planning to be a lawyer, like his dad. He'll probably end up brokering a deal to buy out Brookfield for a developer in 15 years.

JessieMcJessie · 23/09/2013 12:00

Caroline was right not to admit liability when Eddie started bandying about accusations of negligence ( because she would risk invalidating her insurance if she did). However I don't know why she didn't just confirm to Eddie that they had notified their insurers and were following the standard process, in order to defuse the personal nature of it all. Clarrie should be well aware how it all works- the family of the child who got e-coli sued bridge farm and the insurers dealt with it all relatively painlessly.

nennypops · 23/09/2013 14:15

It did seem needlessly aggressive to bark "What do you have to say about THAT!" at Caroline with regard to the injuries as if she were some sort of uncaring monster. After all, she'd just spent ages saying how mortified she was.

Somethingyesterday · 23/09/2013 14:26

Exactly. And at one point he referred to her as Caroline Sterling in full, as if speaking of a stranger he didn't like. Firstly without "Caroline" or "Sterling" both his sons might have been unemployed and homeless. And secondly Eddie has never been unreasonable. A bit feckless in earlier years; a bit haphazard; but always able to see sense. He knew Caroline had been far away for the past few weeks - it's deeply unfair to immediately blame her. Even in these circumstances.

Obssessive - moi?

ppeatfruit · 23/09/2013 14:31

Eddie can often be a shit until his behaviour is pointed out to him by Clarrie. He's always been looking for a fast buck hasn't he?

Somethingyesterday · 23/09/2013 14:38

Yes he has - which is why, counterintuitively, I feel that the "real" Eddie would never have seen this as a money-making opportunity.

TheSilverySoothsayer · 23/09/2013 14:44

Agree with this something. I can almost hear him saying "just you get better, Dad, that's all that matters"...

ppeatfruit · 23/09/2013 14:47

I don't know so much I can almost see him cartoon style with huge £ signs in his eyes!!!

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/09/2013 14:57

I think you're right in that the scriptwriters just don't 'know' the characters in the same way we do.

Somethingyesterday · 23/09/2013 15:07

Odd isn't it Mrs? I've always read that they serve a long apprenticeship. Perhaps they've shortened the learning time to save money? I can't give up now - I've invested a lifetime. But I am having to make up more and more in my head and disregard the radio version. (Nigel....)

I guess we just see him differently ppeaSmile.

Does anyone else think old/new Clarrie is beginning to settle in? Her voice was pitched slightly higher yesterday and her delivery was perhaps a little speedier. She just needs more lilt in her voice - not just an accent.
