New thread!

ppeatfruit but watermelon is fine: modern and sophisticated, especially with a feta cheese crumbled over it. Melon (hard and overchilled) is a throwback to 1970s and alternative to (yuk) prawn cocktail. And of course this fits in well with the ridiculous scene with the proffering of silver service. You can just see GG's waiters unctuously crawling to the guests with proferred silver salvers.

And a 'dessert trolley', naturally.

Lomaamina · 16/08/2013 13:50

Oh and don't forget it must be decorated with a glace cherry.

Grin
Ponders · 16/08/2013 14:10

ooh, that takes me back to my yoof when we thought the height of sophistication was a Berni Inn meal (steak well-done) with an Irish coffee afterwards

starter was always one or the other of those delights Grin

Somethingyesterday · 16/08/2013 16:27

Apparently Feedback will be discussing "Sexed up Archers" in a few minutes..... ShockBlushGrin

MikeTheShite · 16/08/2013 17:17

Can someone if they wouldn't mind give me a quick run down of this weeks episodes? I've had family here and missed it all, if anyone listens to Amex too that would be great

Lomaamina · 16/08/2013 20:32

Something did you hear Feedback? Usual waste of time with BBC person say "no, no no, you don't understand, you small suburban person, we'll be the judge of what's acceptable and we don't give a stuff it's the school holidays. All our friends are away with the kiddies in their gites in Provence and we don't care if the hoi polloi suffer"

Or words to that effect.

JollyGolightly · 16/08/2013 22:09

I've just caught myself wondering how RobHell's date is going.

Panzee · 17/08/2013 03:41

I've never understood why they bother broadcasting Feedback. Nobody ever concedes anything. It's as bad as Newswatch.

ppeatfruit · 17/08/2013 09:40

Loamimina But didn't Ian drag GG kicking and screaming into the noughties a rather long time ago?! Also the prawn cocktail is now fashionably retro isn't it?

Mike there's a thread that precis's Ambex on here but suffice to say ALL the action is in London now with a suspicious posh englishman once more trying to pull the wool over the eyes of idiot Matt. and daft Lil is trying to make up with him WHY FGS??? It's getting even more annoying now!! Oh and it looks like Brenda is going to be set up for life with Dima a very rich Russian who wanted to keep his riches a secret DUH DUH!!!!

Somethingyesterday · 17/08/2013 09:58

Loma Yes I did hear it...

D'you know, I have professional qualifications in listening and I honestly couldn't understand a word he was saying Hmm

Questioner "Broadcasting those words at that time was unacceptable."

Idiot "Isn't it wonderful that this isn't TV - so we can paint a picture with these words.... burble burble..... lovely.... nice..... hth..."

My ears simply could not locate any answer to the question he was asked.

Lomaamina · 17/08/2013 12:27

Somethingyesterday that's exactly the sentence that got me shouting at the radio "answer the bloody question"!

Lomaamina · 17/08/2013 12:29

ppeatfruit yes you're right ( and much better than the SW at continuity). I still stand by the fact that melon out of season will never be acceptable, even if dished up ironically in retro fashion.

PseudoBadger · 17/08/2013 12:32

I bet it's not melon. It's sea melon (if that's a thing), or a Heston-style 'melon' made from Borcetshire Blue or some such nonsense

Impomea · 17/08/2013 15:17

Hi all .Ihave not listened since they killed off Nigel which made me angry as he was my favourite.

Is Joleen marrying Kenton ? Are they similar ages -does anyone know how old they are meant to be?

Just had a random thought-maybe Monty Don's dog is named after Nigel P.

ppeatfruit · 17/08/2013 21:43

Thanks Loma Grin. I wasn't listening when they were eating melon but Caroline mentioned the fridge and I thought they were eating at home.Oh I hate Heston up his arse style denatured food as well; I reckon it's very much a man thing psuedo!

Impomea yes J'lene and Kenton are getting married and I reckon she's possibly older than him 'cos Fallon is a lot older than Meriel I stand to be corrected though! (she may just 've been an early starter!)

WhatSheSaid · 18/08/2013 00:36

Googled and Kenton was born 8.8.58, so is 55. I can't find a d.o.b for Jolene but Fallon was born in 1985 which makes her 28. Jolene is probably early 50s?

The actor who plays Kenton is Clement Attlee's grandson!

TallGiraffe · 18/08/2013 08:12

55 Shock that's the same age as my Dad. Not what I had in my head at all. Radio's a funny thing!

Impomea · 18/08/2013 09:35

Ah thanks .I was thinking that Joleen was the same age as Sid so would be 60/70!

I did google her -wish I hadn't cos the actress woh plays her does not look like she sounds nor does the woman who is pusscat Lil !

ppeatfruit · 18/08/2013 12:55

Even funnier that at 55 Kenton is finally settling down Shock Grin .

I was right the melon was served in Caro's house to Ray the lech and potential ruiner of GG and his wife !!

WhatSheSaid · 18/08/2013 20:45

Kenton did settle down for a while with Mel in NZ didn't he? Though it was Not In Ambridge so maybe doesn't count Grin

Gigondas · 18/08/2013 20:56

He did whatshesaid but not for that long as I seem to remember he came back and was with cathy for a while.

only cathy can manage to make me grind my teeth about not standing up for herself at work or when out, being so feeble at work and still managing to bleat on about Jamie being best man in a way that makes it quite clear that she does mind whatever she says.

Also how many ante natal friends as an excuse can Helen use up before tony and pat suspect,

Tommy · 18/08/2013 21:39

yes - the "ante natal friends" she has never mentioned before or wants to meet up with when they have their same aged children with them.... Hmm

CuttedUpPear · 19/08/2013 00:10

I'm really enjoying Anthea - she's a very well written character. Love her deference to Lilian whilst demonstrating her ability to run (and inprove) Amside single handedly.
Wouldn't it be great if Lil stopped mooning over Matt, teamed up with Anthea and conquered the Borsetshire property market?

I have a fantasy of a contretemps between Anthea and that woman on The Board (can't remember her name) who seems to have lots of power (and most likely big shoulder pads).

Panzee · 19/08/2013 04:35

Annabel.

I too love Anthea. They need to get Lil to shake off all this self pity and you're right, they would be brilliant running Amside.
