I have two DS's and a DD. DS1 is going to university ON MY BIRTHDAY in September. So pleased for him but know I am going to make a fool of myself saying goodbye. Doesn't help that I could not get rid of my parents quickly enough when I went 25 odd years ago.

I felt sorry for the guy whose M loved him conditionally (totally unaccepting his wife) I'm not sure i'd feel so charitable towards my M in her old age if it were me.

not yet at MIL stage as ds is only 13,but when they were talking about your son finding someone else to love and to take care of them I felt a real pang of dread !

I have reached that stage my DS is so loving and sadly has broken up with his unstable P (not my fault at all!!) sad for my GD but he is hands on with her still.

Yes, but i missed the beginning of the story about the guy whose mother and wife didn't get along. Poor man - he was caught in the middle. The wife did sound like a nutter, but I only heard a bit of it so didn't get the full story.
