It's because they record the younger children at a different time and then just paste in their bits to the recording.

The Archers don't really understand children do they? My DS is exactly the same age as Daniel (give or take a few days) and we live somewhere Borsetshire-like: I have spent years going . Daniel is nothing like DS or any of his mates. Ditto Jamie.
They always seem to make the characters out to be at least two years younger (emotionally-wise) than they really are (chronologically speaking).
