Jack Dee just isn't Humph.

They don't seem to have altered the ISIHAC scripts to take account of a completely new personality hosting the show. When Humph said rude or smutty things it was funny because he sounded lke such a dear old man. Jack Dee is too young and too grumpy to pull it off. He's not a bad choice, but they need to let him host it in his way, not try and make him be Humph.

I think he's doing the best he can (in fact, I think he's doing really well). The problem is that he's inherited a format that listeners are fanatical about - I'm sure he will adapt it as he goes along.

Yes, I think he was the best of the three, but as YY says, the writers need to modify their output. I don't expect him to 'adapt' too much for at least 5 years, unless he gets fed up with the writers, and leaves before then.

I think Jack's doing brilliantly & I had the impression that there is actually a lot less smut now than Humph used to do?

JD has exactly the right "why am I here & how soon can I leave?" tone IMO

For anyone wanting a bit of old ISIHAC (1991) then there's a repeat played on Radio 7 on Tuesday at 12:30 and 19:30 (at 12:00 and 19:00 there's "Yes, Minister").

Of course, via iPlayer, you should be able to listen to it at some later time in the day/week if Tuesday is too busy for you.
