@WinterFrogs - I have a deliberate day off every couple of weeks because I refuse to be a slave to the tyranny of a streak. DH lost a 498 day streak this year and was a right bloody grump about it.

My connections streaks meant nothing unril i joined in these threads and learnt that success is in fact possible. Even so, a three day streak is quite good going for me!
Was your DH 's loss of streak entirely the fault of the puzzle setter? That would be my DH excuse, so he deliberately doesn't use the app

I was vibing with this today, except for purple which was almost BD, but encouraged by the first solves here, I stared at it for long enough and eventually the penny dropped. HNY!

That is a very good idea! The Tyranny of the Streak is indeed a thing. Also it can lead to much cheating googling and looking things up in the dictionary, just for the sake of that tyrannical streak.

@WinterFrogs - nah, merely a brain fart. He just couldn't see it. He was monumentally pissed off about it.

Streaks are gamification's way of keeping us keen. I resent the manipulation, so I disrupt my own streaks before I get too invested.
