Double buggy advice!

Her DC2 is due 10 days after her DS turns 1, she think she can get around the issue of no double buggy by combining sling, reins, and eldest walking etc....i wasnt entirely sure this would work!

So I said I would come on here and ask your advice!

well I have just bought a double buggy and DD will be 3 when dd2 arrives. Reasons being we do a lot of walking, DD still sleeps in the buggy, I don't want to go out for the day and have DD whinging about being tired, I don't want DD to feel pushed out of her buggy by DD2 and finally although DD is a great walker (will walk 2 miles easily) I think this is partly down to walking being her choice and would like it to stay that way.

Thank you, I think the problem is, is that her DS isnt walking or even really crawling yet, so no idea what kind of walker he will be iygwim!

I think she is bonkers. There is 22 months between my two and we walk alot, there is no way I would have considered going without a double with a young toddler and newborn. Even now (DS is 3.7 and DD is 21mo) we have a phil & teds double.

She might manage it with a sling and the single pushchair but I think she might be making life harder for herself. Aren't I optimistic .

I din't want to use the word bonkers myself but...

I nanny a 14m old who is walking but a walk that would take me 3 mins takes about 25 when shes walking! it would take SO long!

She's asking me for advice on it all so im gettin opinions to say...look, your mad!

I have a 3.7yo and 22 month old and use our Mountain Buggy daily. My main issue is that when one child is in the buggy, the other one wants to be too. So i either have no children or 2 in the buggy

A single and sling will work for a while but unless the older one is really into walking and doesn't need naps, i suspect as they get older she may relent

Why doesn't she want one? They can be terribly depressing cause you feel so cumbersome. Unfortunately you feel more encumbered if you can't get around easily.

I have a 15m gap and didn't buy a double til dc2 was 3mo. I was so annoyed at money spunked on travel system for dc1 that I wanted to make sure I'd use a double rather than just assume it was essential.

FWIW it was a lifesaver. Just being able to get out and WALK was amazing when everything else felt tough.

If it's a cash thing, she can get a second hand nipper, P&T E3 or Mountain Buggy for £150. Even if she only used it for a year, I'd reckon it'd be the best £3 per week she'd ever spent.

(saying that, I know someone with a 19m gap who went without one and was fine. She is mentally against buggies in general though and has both of hers out of buggy at 18m. doesn't drive either)

I have 20 months between DS and DD and have slung DD and pushed DS in a single but for short trips rather than all day.
DS is not a great walker and always wants cuddles when walking. I have been going to our local shops (5 mins walk) with DD in the sling and him on a hip because he won't walk any more.

My p&t sport is a godsend - No wider than a single, fits in the boot of my car (ASTRA) and can be used as a single when DS is at the CM. Wish I had got it first time round

DS1 was 23 months when DS2 came along and I was in two minds about whether to buy a double buggy because of the cost, and I wasn't sure if I'd ever use it - fast forward 4 months and I'm so glad I did, as I have used it practically every day!

We have the Phil and Ted's and it's been a lifesaver - I don't think I could have managed without it. Your friend could always buy a second-hand buggy and then re-sell it, if cost is an issue..?

FWIW I find it quite hard to keep control of DS1 when carrying DS2 in a sling, as you can't run and the baby can get kicked when you are picking the toddler up against his will! But your friend's toddler might be a little tamer than mine

I had 19mth gap between dc1 and dc2 then a 15mth gap between dc2 and dc3 She'll def need a double.
The best one i had was the Mothercare Urban detour, not as heavy as the phil and ted, with decent sized seats and storage. You can pick them up for under £100 on ebay.
The citi jogger double is good as well.

She doesn't want one as A. the money and B. thinks it's unnecessary.

She has a Maclaren XLR in almost perfect condition, I know they don't hold their resale value as well as a bugaboo for example, but they sell reasonably high it seems
so i suggested selling that now whilst its in fab condition and getting a 2nd hand p&t and use as a single in the meantime

She is asking my advice about this all the time so I think I do need to say "get the bloody thing"

crikey OP I am soooo anti doubles (see posts passim) but even I would get a double with a 12mo gap!

None of mine were remotely ready to be out of the pushchair for ever at 12 mo or even, using sling for 6mo, by 18mo tbh.
