Bugaboo Bee for newborns?

Having gone slightly crazy in minefield that is choosing my first buggy, I have fallen for the Bugaboo Bee as it is lightweight for city living and the baby can face you if needed - however when I looked at one (both the old and the new plus model), I was concerned that it doesn't go completely flat for a newborn even though it apparently complies with standards etc... Has anyone come up with a solution to this??

Yes, it's fine. I had the original model from newborn and the infant nest but a friend just had a generic headhugger which was fine too. Would definitely recommend it.

I have the original with the nest and it was perfectly fine when my dd was newborn. I was looking at the new model the other day in John lewis and the seat in that didn't appear to lay as flat as my original model but I might have been imagining it!

I've just got the new Bee plus (newborn won't be here til mid July) -

And I thought that the 'flat' position didn't look as flat as it did on my friend's original Bee. I'm a little bit worried about that, as her newborn looked very happy and comfy flat on the old bee base, and I don't see why the new one needs to be any different....JL staff were v keen to stress the new Bee complies with standards even though it isn't totally flat. Not sure what to think.

I have mentioned this on another thread. Have seen the plus and not 100% flat and I was also concerned that where the seat splits to allow it to recline, there was a bit of a ridge which would be really uncomfortable. Maybe it hadn't been set up right but didn't look great. The woman in the shop said you had to have the cocoon for a new born as well to overcome this - so more expense.

i have the original. it goes flat and is very comfy with the nest.

Thanks for all your replies. Doesn't seem to make any sense that they would improve the seat size on the plus but then compromise on the flatness... Well, I think I probably have to go back to a shop & have another look - maybe a lambskin underneath the baby would iron out the uneven seat..?

fifitot, I'm wondering if this ridge you've seen at the seat 'joint' is just that the material that should poke out the back of the base unit has been pulled out of the top for some reason.

There's def no ridge at all in the new bee base that I have. However, cos the seat and back are extendable, when they are both at their 'smallest' settings, there's a good couple of inches of spare material at the back. This is what gives you the extra inches when you pull the seat/back out to extend it, IYSWIM. Like a concertina.

miltong - the cocoon (which you do have to buy separately) has slits for the seat straps to pull through. So a lambskin would make the base a flatter lie, but I don't know how you'd be able to secure your newborn with the straps then. Unless I'm being dim...

Hmmmmmmmmmm could be the way it was set up. Will need to go back when a more knowledgable shop person is on. The young woman in JL seemed a bit clueless tbh.
