Pneumatic tyres - yes or no???

Hi,
Am about to purchase a new pram. Previous one was a Silver Cross Linear Freeway. Never had any problems with it and was a great pram.

Anyway, had my heart set on a Mothercare My Choice pram this time around but while admiring it in store the assistant explained to me that it has pneumatic tyres and therefore may puncture at some stage.

It had honestly never occured to me that different types of prams would have different types of tyres and I had no idea pram tyres could puncture.

Mentioned this to DH who reckons it sounds too much like hard work, and he can't be bothered with the tyre in the bucket of water trying to find a hole etc etc.

So are pneumatic tyres a PITA and best avoided? Would appreciate your thoughts.

they are a much smoother ride, i have had one puncture in 5 years and it wasnt a problem, i just bought a new innertube and smiled nicely at the man in halfords and he replaced it for me. i go off-road alot and just dont like the bumpy ride that hard tyres give.

Well, my 3 wheeler has punctured 4 times in 7 months!

First and last times were the front wheel, which, while a PITA to get home, I managed by lifting up the front and pushing IYSWIM? The back ones puncturing were a nightmare!

It's fairly easy to detect and repair, and it's far easier to push.

However, my buggy is a borrowed one and I have a spare.

Mine are doubles BTW.

You can buy stuff in bike shops called Slime that you put into your tyres before using them and it will plug up small punctures for you. I've used air tyres for 4 years and only had 2 punctures, both of which were due to going over glass that I'd not noticed and that was before I knew about Slime!

Been using air tyres for 4 years now, had one puncture to date, that was last week. Tyre slime is fab, works a treat. Pump is useful as a temporary fix, and will prob. get you home (depending on how bad the puncture is)
I would say the air tyres are worth the hassle, they do give a far superior ride for baby.

Will have a think about it and will definitely look into getting some slime if deciding to go ahead.
Was in a shopping centre today and spotted a couple with a pram wheel off pumping it up! - I've obviously been walking around with my eyes closed!
