Tell me that my bargain Maclaren has brakes somewhere ?

I was lucky enough to pick up a cheap second hand Maclaren Quest for £12 on Ebay

It will be used alongside slings for toddler DS until DC3 arrives and then we'll be back to our P&T Vibe (and slings)

Due to illness my parents picked the buggy up for me and so I haven't had any instructions.

I managed to get the four back positions working and the buggy folds up and down easy enough, even found the leg extended bits.

But I am still not sure how to get the brakes working, please help a tired pregnant lady, it must have flipping brakes even this cheap

Oh, if anyone has a super cheap carry strap or rain cover for sale for this pram, I would be very interested

Brakes? I didn't think buggies had brakes, or am I just waaaaaaaaay out of date?

On my Maclaren (I think it's a Quest) there are two rubber covered bits about 3cm long rising up from just above the rear wheels. You push them to the left or right to activate/ release the break. I have to say mine is very stiff and I can't always get it to work.

Oh I see what you mean - I thought you meant like a bike brake

As stewie said, Maclaren brakes are on the back wheels, you have to kick the bar over so that the brakes stick in the wheels. Mine haven't worked for at least a year although that could just be because I've never cleaned it . I just keep my foot on the wheels on the bus and park it up against lamp posts etc if I need ot pause when out.

Congratulations by the way, didn't spot that you were pg, it only seems a few months ago that oyu were pg with number 2 and telling the daft bf group woman where to stick it.

Looks like the breaks might be a bit dodgy, judging by the collective experience of Mumsnet!

Indith, Yep, time flies We are lucky that support group is now run by HV with peer supporter mums helping too...I lot more supportive place now

Everyone, Great I have the bar thing but I still not sure how to get the brakes on, Nope, I'll have to wait until my three year old gets out (currently watching tv in it) and have another go.

I did get the brakes working. Have to kick bar to right whilst pushing buggy forward slightly.

Thanks for the advice else I have struggled
