Tandem pushchairs that can take more than 15kg in one of the seats?

Are there any except the Phil and Teds and the i-candy peach blossom? All the others I've looked at seem to only be tested to 15kg, which is bloody useless when my 16 month old already weighs well over 13kg!

Surely there must be more contenders out there?

Joovy caboose. It's a usa brand. Sometimes they're on ebay.
A baby Jogger city elite plus the baby Jogger toddler seat (which is not available in the uk but you can import yourself from www.countrymoosekids.com ) or an easy life sport plus toddler seat. You can get the easylife sport off ebay quite often and if you don't find one with the toddler seat you can again import yourself from 2ndchildhood.co.nz . I prefer the city elite plus toddler seat myself having tried both. I got my Bj city elite off ebay.

I could kiss you troubadour!
I am now in love with the City Select, and am actually prepared to buy a buggy without test driving it!

It is rather fab. I can fit my large 6y old in the city elite, either buggy or toddler seat. It handles very well, easy to push, stable and the air tyres help too. I'm sure you'll love it, but if not it should be quite easy to sell on.
The toddler seat is lovely. Well padded, great quality and nice harness. I got the canopy, and a generic tandem rain cover just fits over both seats as the hoods support it. Tis a lot nicer to push than a phil and teds!

We are talking about slightly different models though aren't we troubadour? I went onto the babyjogger site to look at the elite which you suggested, but found the select instead, which is I think their newest model. I love that you can have it in something like 16 different positions, including the 2 children facing each other.

I haven't found any pics of the elite being used as a tandem at all. Do you have links to any?

Cantsleepwontsleep I have seen the Baby Jogger Select and I was impressed by it!! So easy to use, didn't find it too heavy and I also loved the different seating combinations you could have!

Here is the baby jogger jump seat - which fits the babyjogger city elite and city classic (will not fit city mini for support reasons).

It is not available for sale in the uk - but I found I could order from www.countrymoosekids.com and they were happy to send it here for me. I also got the "Jump seat" canopy - which is really nice to have and will help support a tandem raincover for bad weather!

It is good because you can add it or remove it depending if you need a single or double stroller.

I also discovered - while shopping I can sit my baby in the toddler seat and lower the back seat of the babyjogger to put all the shopping bags in!!! (great if you are shopping without a car and have some bulky items to carry)!

This toddler seat is nicely padded and roomy - so even if you have a 3y old in a snowsuit you're not going to be cramming them in there. The toddler seat is supposed to be up to 15kg - but handled my 18kg 6y old no problems - and yes the pram was still easy to push!

Hi, I had the same problem with my 17kg 2yo and newborn - went for the Nipper 360 double, which is a side-by-side but takes up to 22kg per seat. It's fantastic, nice and light and the dc love being next to each other.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/03/2010 20:55

Ah, the jump seat - yes, saw that on my travels around the www! I'm a bit cautious of using stuff well over the weight limit as more than just a very occasional thing, so I think I'm going to order the City Select on Monday.

I really don't want a side by side that will always be a double WaterGreen, but would go for the Mountain Buggy or the Baby Jogger Elite if I did. I do have friends who have been very happy with the Nipper like you though.

City select looks really fab. Will be best option for you given the ages of your little ones i'm sure. I too liked the 360 but same as you found a side by side will always be a double also it would not fit through our front door so carrying it in and out to pop it up was a pain. It is a great buggy though!
