Stokke Xplory or iCandy apple - help!!

Help! Am in a total dilemma - I really love the look of the xplory and the way the baby is so up high however when I took dh to see one yesterday he was disappointed by the putting up and down of it. He thought there were too many steps and that the switches weren't user friendly. He also didn;t think it would be any good for walking our dog on woodland paths. We then went into John Lewis and saw the icandy apple which he was really taken with - the ease of putting it up and down etc and the tyres. I'm concerned that I've read about a few quality issues with the icandy and as we live aboad it will be very difficult to return one to the UK if it breaks.

I guess what I'm asking is whether anyone has an xplory and puts it in and out the car a few times a week but also takes it a bit 'off road' and is happy with it? Am i asking the impossible?!

Many thanks in advance.

We have the Xplory and it's definitely an urban pram. It's excellent on city streets but I wouldn't take it offroad, as it were. I worry about dogs and I love the fact that DD is not at eye level with dogs or getting knocked around by people's swinging shopping bags. The height is great if you have to walk out into the road from behind a car - you're very visible.

BUT, your DH is right, it would be a complete PITA to put into the boot several times a week (we don't have a car so it didn't matter to us).

We only worked out how to collapse it after watching a demonstration someone had uploaded to YouTube.

Hiya,

I bought an icandy apple in the spring,it's been wonderful in everyway, we walk the paths and beaches a lot and it's coped with this really well. I'm looking at buying the kit that upgrades it to a double as DD is due in the spring (again!). DH is happy pushing too, he's over 6 foot tall so the big extending handle suits him well - i can't imagine him leaning over a diddy pram !!. Apples for me alright, i'd buy again.

I put my Xplory in and out of the car at least once a day. Absolutely no problem. I put baby in car seat, then take the carry cot off, put it on the parcel shelf and collapse the rest. Put that in the boot, put the carry cot back on top of it and done! Less than a minute from strapping baby in.
I LOVE the xplory so much, and so does the baby, more importantly!

I couldn't be doing with anything other than a maclaren if there's going to be constant putting in and out of the car, but I know that;s not what you asked!

(sorry for the thead hi-jack op)
Xplory users, how old was your dc when they ''out-grew'' it? Did they get too physically big before they got fed up with having to be lifted into / out of it? I know the hight is lovely pre-walking age, but does it become a problem with a toddler who wants to be able to get out and walk along a bit?

I love my apple jogger, so comfy to push, even over gravel, and suspension great for dd. I find it easy to put up & down but does need a decent sized boot. Have no experience of the stokke tho!

TeddyB - You can lower the Stokke so that it is a normal height so a toddler can get in and out of it. I agree with others that you need a fair sized boot if you're going to be using it with a car. We got a Quinny Zapp as our 'car' push chair when we got fed up with positioning shopping around the Stokke. I do LOVE my Stokke though and wouldn't change it. I would be more likely to change the Zapp to be honest! Oh and you have to get used to constant comments and the push chair getting more attention than your beautiful baby!

Oh and dd loves being up high & gets very grumpy when she's in the Zapp rather than the Stokke.

My DH loves the stokke but i was put off with the price tag and was trying to find one a tad bit cheaper, may have to buy overseas! i have 5 weeks until baby comes!

RockBird · 18/12/2009 09:42

I love love my Apple. It is so versatile and dd (23 months) still has tons of room in it. She looks so snuggly in it. Would definitely recommend it.

Mama2b5 · 05/01/2010 18:55

I've done it and went for the "Stokke" fingers crossed!
